Description

Turns out, one of the units at Coopers Chase has temporarily become a safe house for an ageing, politically incorrect spy and Elizabeth is roped into baby-sitting a man she knows too well: her former life has come calling. This man makes an unwelcome declaration of love and a confession which concerns the reason for his concealment. I think if you liked the first book, you’ll probably enjoy the second one as well, especially if you’re really enamored with the characters. Flood, Alison (21 September 2021). "Richard Osman's second book is one of the fastest-selling novels since records began". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 8 October 2021 . Retrieved 9 October 2021. There wasn’t enough setting around the Coopers Chase retirement home and the Thursday Murder Club gathering like there was in book 1. The characters Ron, Ibrahim, Elizabeth and Joyce sounded similar, if their dialogue was mixed up I wouldn’t notice. I am learning that it is important to stop sometimes, and just have a drink and a gossip with your friends, even as corpses start to pile up around you.”

I need to reread the first book cause I gave that 3.5 stars. Was I wrong? Or does the second book just have my specific tropes?

Hobbies

Osman's inspiration for the book came from a visit he made to an upmarket retirement village. [1] He wrote the book over 18 months in secret. [2]

A brutal mugging, an unexpected visitor from the past, stolen diamonds, mafia-types, a lady drug-dealer/crime boss, and a trigger-happy killer! The bodies keep dropping and the culprits keep disappearing without a trace... It was also so fun having more Bogdan. Bogdan, a Polish man of many useful talents, helps around Cooper's Chase and in this one, is particularly helpful to Elizabeth. Their relationship is so special. Little does she know that “The Thursday Murder Club” will soon be embroiled in a dangerous new case involving 20 million dollars in stolen diamonds, MI5 spies and even the New York City Mafia! Don’t get a small dog though, Joyce,’ says Ron. ‘Small dogs are like small men: always got a point to prove. Yapping it up, barking at cars.”Don’t get a small dog, though, Joyce,” says Ron. “Small dogs are like small men: always got a point to prove. Yapping it up, barking at cars.”
