Description

A liquid crystal display (LCD) is included in the operator panel to display useful information including current settings for scanning documents, the number of sheets scanned, and error status. Users know the scanner status in the blink of an eye and can easily select and initiate predefined scanning profiles. Fujitsu's PaperStream NX Manager provides built-in server software to easily integrate centralized client-server document management systems—basically, fleet management software on steroids. Windows® 10 (14), Windows® 8.1, Windows® 7, Windows Server® 2019, Windows Server® 2016, Windows Server® 2012 R2, Windows Server® 2012, Windows Server® 2008 R2, Windows Server® 2008 (16), macOS (13)(15), Linux (Ubuntu) (13)(15) The software is designed to maximize administrator and user usability. Operation is simple to eliminate time spent on sorting scanned images and boost overall productivity.

Building on and incorporating the market-proven paper protection mechanisms of previous fi-series scanners, the fi-7160 introduces an additional market innovation for safeguarding any paper documents. By listening to the audible sound of paper movements, intelligent Sonic Paper Protection automatically suspends paper feeding if an irregular noise is detected. This advanced Paper Protection feature reliably reduces the risk of damaging documents during scanning. The fi-7160 has been introduced to support increasingly diverse business related document capture routines at the desktop of individual knowledge workers or small workgroups. Simple, productivity-boosting operation virtually eliminates training requirements, both when using the scanner for regular document management routines as well as when using latest "ScanSnap Manager for fi Series scanners" software to accomplish individual ad hoc tasks. Featuring a high capacity hopper tray, these scanners allow for loading document batches containing up to 80 sheets at a time - and allowing for the continuous feeding of additional documents whilst scanning. If you need your documents to show evidence of having been scanned, the optional imprinter will "stamp" the reverse side of your documents additionally providing a cross-reference from your digital files. During testing, we were impressed with PaperStream Capture and didn't have to wait long for our batch scans either. Duplex scans of 50 bank statements returned 62ppm for colour and greyscale at 200dpi and 300dpi with speed dropping to 12ppm at 600dpi.

The fi-7160 brings industry leading mixed batch scanning capabilities to the desktop with a design that allows for a record breaking mixed batch feeding range from 27 - 413 g/m², freeing the user from most paper weight related pre-sorting requirements. The fi-7160 is equipped with a "Skew Reducer" to maintain the straight alignment of paper feeding. Particularly valuable for mixed document batches containing small format documents or thin paper sheets, this function reduces the physical skew of documents throughout the paper path. Even the most untidy batches are given special treatment sheet-by-sheet, which ensures total coverage for every scan: no lost data on the edges or in the corners, no more rescans. The patentedǂ feeding mechanism ensures safe capture of passports without a carrier sheet, while MRZ recognition ensures consistently accurate capture of personal data. With duplex scanning capability, the fi-7160 scans colour A4 documents at a speed of 60 ppm / 120 ipm (all speeds A4 Portrait 200 / 300 dpi), offering unrivalled cost-performance. Where even higher throughput and productivity are required, the fi-7180 model delivers impressive speeds of 80 ppm / 160 ipm. Whether you need fast or faster scanning, these models guarantee solid performance and quality results. Hardware highlights include:

Profiles are simple to create using the wizard and combine scan settings such as colour, greyscale or mono output, resolutions, paper sizes and duplex or simplex. Destinations can be a local folder, a network location, FTP or SharePoint server but cloud locations aren't supported as Fujitsu's clunky Capture Connect app is no longer available. If you’re using a wireless connection, the scanner will automatically detect and configure itself for the wireless network. Even so, the two scanners measure an identical 6.4 by 11.8 by 6.7 inches (HWD) with their trays closed, and the newer device is only half a pound heavier, at 9.8 pounds. Like comparable document scanners, the fi-8170 increases its depth more than threefold when its trays are open for business. With trays extended, the fi-8170 is three or four times deeper. For example, if you have a printer then you need a driver for that printer so that your computer knows how to use it properly. Sometimes, your PC doesn’t find the necessary drivers or finds old ones that no longer work properly. Advanced software for maximized efficiency Connect business workflow with PaperStream IP and PaperStream Capture

For the record, the Epson DS-870 and Raven Pro scanners tied the Fujitsu's accuracy; the Canon DR-M260 managed 5 points error-free with Arial and 6 points with Times New Roman, while the Alaris turned in a highly respectable 6 points with both. (Again, direct comparisons with the Epson DS-970 weren't practical.) It's important to note that all these scores are better than acceptable. The fi-8170 protects documents from damage using innovative new technology. Patentedǂ Image Monitoring identifies overly skewed documents in real time and halts the scanning process before they can be damaged. ISoP will do the same if it detects any abnormal feed sounds, while Lag detection ensures documents are feeding through at the expected speed. You can even extract data from documents as they are being scanned with a profile's Meta Data option. We previewed a sample scan, drew a box round the area we wanted zonal OCR to be applied and could request the information within it to be exported as a TXT, CSV or XML file when the scan finished. They are installed on the PC when you first turn it on or plug in a new device. Drivers can come pre-installed on your computer or you can find them online if you need specific ones for certain components. The PaperStream IP scanner driver, supporting both TWAIN/ISIS, eliminates the need of making fine setting adjustments for OCR processes. It automatically converts images into exceptionally clean images, accelerating OCR even when scanning wrinkled, soiled and patterned documents.PaperStream IP Driver (TWAIN/TWAIN x64/ISIS), WIA Driver (18), PaperStream Capture, ScanSnap Manager for fi Series (19), Software Operation Panel, Error Recovery Guide, ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap™ (19), Scanner Central Admin Fujitsu reps have told me more than once that their higher-end scanners like the fi-8170 operate under the assumption that the machine is likely to be deployed in an existing, high-end document management solution. But if not—if you're preparing to roll out a new document archiving application—between Fujitsu's bundled programs and available add-ons, you can create and maintain a basic solution, a sophisticated one, or anything in between. Support for Fujitsu's core computing products - including notebooks (LIFEBOOK), tablets PCs (STYLISTIC), PCs, servers (PRIMERGY), and storage (ETERNUS) - is provided via a central portal.
