The Bruggar household was built on control and taking the mens' desires and wants any way they wanted. The Man raised Gunnir and Alexzander to take selfishly and love and feelings were for the weak. Gunnir being the oldest became the exact replica of The Man. Alexzander had his mother's love early on in life and few memories of better times throughout all the beatings and conditioning the boys were put through.

Their relationship was almost poetic at times. These two had their own dark love language, and it absolutely worked for them. It's not even the triggers that made it unreadable. No, it's everything else outside of those triggers. Ophelia’s become my obsession, and I know that I’ll do anything to keep her with me. Our bond is twisted and complicated, built on a foundation of captivity and control. It’s not healthy, but I can’t help how I feel.

SA: the H allows another man to touch her in exchange for an ID. He ends up killing him before he enters her. Not necessarily sharing but he was willing to have her get f’ed. the H takes care of him 💅. Later in the book, another man touches her. The H takes care of him 💁🏻‍♀️ He takes Ophelia after becoming fixated on her at the diner where she works. Ophelia’s life is far from good with a drunk abusive father and a shitty job but now it’s going to get a whole lot worse when Alex decides he wants her for his own. Now kept at the whim of a monster Ophelia will have to do what she must to survive even if that means embracing the lesser of two evils and the only thing standing in the way of a worse ordeal at the hands of Alex’s brother.This is not a dark romance… this is horror erotica for sureee… there is no romance to be seen in this book. The MMC is not kind, chivalrous, lenient or decent just because he abuses the FMC less (in comparison) to his brother with the other captured girl. He still regularly r*pes her whenever he wants to. That can never turn to romance idgaf however anyone spins it… Hey! Baby girl, come here! my father yelled from the living room. His words dripped with the slur of hard liquor. They entered my ears and traveled to my stomach, where they coiled around my gut like a snake, tightening and writhing. Where’s your mother? he shouted.

Man, oh man is Lex a hottie!! He has a crazy disregard for life and ethics, but man he's still a great hero. He does things not only because he has to in some cases but because he likes it. He never second guesses himself and never feels remorse for his actions, until he meets Selena. Narrated in dual POV, it becomes apparent that Alex and Ophelia share a similar loss and experienced abusive situations, though their actions are quite different. As Ophelia is held captive, she is tested in mental and physical ways. With the constant threat of Alex’s brother, the cycle continues without bounds. Warning: It’s definitely NSFW or with a kiddo by your side. In fact, I would highly recommend you read this one after dark to avoid side eye or awkward conversations. Tbh I didn’t feel the romantic connection with the main characters, but I do see how they connected. We never put our mouths on them like that. But Ophelia was so pure, and I wanted to devour her innocence and swallow every drop.Now there was silence. No more laughter from my mother, and nothing to save me from The Man.
