I mean... I enjoyed this one more than the first one, probably knowing beforehand that it wasn’t going to be heavy on the mafia and darkness made me like it more. I loved Nessa, and I didn’t like her much to begin with because I hadn’t connected with her in the first book, but she was sweet and strong at the same time, I loved her and how well she connected with tormented Miko, whom I also loved in a weird, I know you’re damaged, way. I don’t mind nice innocent heroines, but ugh I wanted Nessa to fight more! I was so frustrated by how she surrendered completely to her feelings towards him. She showed no struggle, no inner conflict and it was kinda unrealistic tbh. I know she’s the obedient sheltered daughter, but she was too agreeable in a situation where she should’ve been more conflicted at least? I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did. It wasn't a bad book and I think if I hadn't read so many other mafia books I would have maybe enjoyed it a lot more but there just felt like there was something missing with their relationship and only towards the end are we told about their connection but I never really saw it when she was living with him. They have a few scenes but it was more physical than emotional.

I found the start of the book to be really devastating but it's an important part to understand mikolaj's darkness. On my way home from work, I stop and buy a bag of fresh chrusciki for Anna. Little spots of grease seep through the paper bag from the egg and cream pastries, dusted with powdered sugar to suit their name of “Angel Wings.” She’s writing her university entrance exams today. I already know we’ll have something to celebrate. Anna is brilliant. I’m sure she’ll pass with top marks. paralleled perfectly with the first emotion he felt after years of unfeeling was the guilt that plagued him when seeing Nessa cry. It took a bit for me to get used to the writing style. I still don’t find it the best. Some aspects were slightly too cheesy for my liking and cliche. She thinks her life is set out for her and that her place in her family will always be a bargaining chip for some prized match. She knows her place, she knows what’s expected of her - to uphold the family business and reputation. The kidnapping trope wasn’t done well. The only kidnapping stories I have read were on wattpad so idk if I have any say in this but the kidnapping trope was just not it??? Yk what I mean?? When it comes to dark romance story’s like kidnapping the story has to be written in a specific kind of way to make it enjoyable and not make you feel creeped out or like what. Is. Going. On.” Dark romance is after all a side of romance that can go wrong very easily if it’s not written well. Anna and I will have a proper house with a garden, and nobody above or below us, banging and shouting at all hours of the night.

She also touched him while he was sleeping and that made me uncomfortable bc he may want you butttt that doesn’t give you the right to just go to the guys room and touch him the way you did while he is asleep and he literally pushed your hand away a couple minutes ago when you also tried it- PLUS IT DID NOT FIT HER CHARACTER ONCE AGAIN SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS SWEET INNOCENT SHY VIRGIR OR WHATEVER ANS SHES OUT HERE STRIPPING AND TOUCHING HIM LIKE THAT BAE THAT IS NOT THE DEFINITION OF SHYWhen she meets her captor there is an immediate understanding of her dire situation. The man who has taken her is as cold as her surroundings. His pale, harsh eyes filled with a mix of power, fury and hatred. She is to be his bargaining chip... but it’s not money or wealth he wants... he clearly doesn’t need it. What he wants is blood. What he wants is to overthrow and crush those who stand in his way. He wants to avenge his father and quash his rivals... her family. For the revenge of the death of their leader they kidnap nessa who is the youngest and most innocent of the irish/Italian alliance but her goodness has a different effect on miko . And he rediscovers love again .

Until he was cooked like a lobster in a pot while working on a blast furnace. He isn’t dead. Just so badly burned that he can barely work the buttons on the remote while he watches television all day long, holed up in his room. While Aida and Callum from book 1 were more explosive and loud in the nature of their relationship, there was something about the quiet strength Nessa and Mikolaj both possessed that I truly admired. And I know who did this. I’ve seen the way they look at her, whenever she leaves our flat to go to school. I see them leaning against their expensive cars, arms folded, their sunglasses failing to conceal how they leer at her. Sometimes they even shout things at her, though she never turns her head or answers. I loved their push and pull relationship, it was so realistic how emotionless Miko was towards Nessa at first, she really was his revenge. I'm so used to this trope but most of the time the Hero instantly starts feeling guilty or soft towards the Heroine, depriving me of the hate-fueled chemistry between couples but in this book I was served ENEMIES-TO -LOVERS excellence. I loved the way Miko slowly progressed with his feelings for Nessa, how he faced the wrath of his men to protect her, and ultimately worked with Callum who he hated and wanted to kill, to prove his devotion and loyalty to Nessa in her families eyes. Nessa Griffin leads a lonely life. Compassionate and gentle, she fills no role in her family's mafia empire. She struggles to prove herself at home and at her highly-competitive ballet corps.Anna is sitting down in the shower, still wearing her school clothes. Her blouse is almost torn off her body. The thin material only clings to her arms and waist. This is a mafia spin on Beauty and the Beast and I honestly loved how Lark handled it. I loved that there was an old dark musty mansion in this with a east wing and west wing, a huge library and a housekeeper who barely understands English. I found it charming and intense at the same time. I loved the whole "if you really love something you must let it go" nod to the original story. The amount of history research for all the rival mafias in Chicago and attention to detail was great. I loved all the dialogue in Polish between Miko and his guys. I loved that Miko felt atypical even for an anti-hero, his cunning intelligence was probably the most attractive thing about him. And the whole full body sleeve tattoos? It worked. 🔥

Jakub leads me over to a chest of drawers. He pulls open the top drawer, revealing a small selection of handguns. Anyway this was really fun and enjoyable, I loved how the two families are now and omg I can’t wait for Sebastian and Riona!! Also Dante tho I heard his book has a second chance trope and I don’t like it much but I really like Dante so hopefully it won’t disappoint Oh and their love story happened so fast, one day they were captor and captive, and then suddenly he fell in love with her out of nowhere. I was like hold up, did we have a time skip I wasn't aware of? i've never been a huge fan of the kidnapping trope but i must say that sophie has done it so well. nothing intimate happened up until 50% of the book and thank god for that because with this trope it’s necessary to build up their relationship Nessa is sweet and innocent. She doesn’t deserve any of this. But that’s how our world works - the wolves eat the lambs, no matter how gentle they may be.

The Beauty and the beast references were very on the nose and that dulled my enjoyment. It was like it was drilled into me that I’m supposed to see them as beauty and the beast. I think I fell in love with Miko with in the first chapter and that continued to the very end of the book. This book made me cry, laugh, sigh and feel other emotions that I only get when I read books that I cannot put down. This was one of them. If we forget all those points, she was a pretty fun character to follow around. Her fear and all was pretty realistic in the beginning and her crying like that I would be crying too The spicy scenes were nowhere near as spicy as the first book. It took quite some time for the characters to fall for each other.
