Welcome to Pink Pigeon rum and seven (count them seven) new serves from Ryan Chetiyawardana. Pink Pigeon rum has actually been around for some 18 months but in truth it hasn’t exactly been making waves. Which is a shame because it’s actually pretty tasty thanks to top quality vanilla, a zingy little citrus edge and orchid petals chipping in with some subtle floral notes. But now the people behind it, the legendary Berry Bros. & Rudd have given it little bit of extra love – tweaking the bottle ever so slightly, bringing in a new marketing team to get it out there and very shrewdly inviting the talented Mr Chetiyawardana to take flight with the Pink Pigeon. Pink pigeons are still dependent upon intensive management for their survival. Management measures still undertaken include supplementary feeding, the provision of nest boxes and the management of introduced predators such as rats.

A damn sight better than most spiced rums ( which I usually loathe). As a spiced rum I can recommend it. The Pink Pigeon is one of the rarest birds in the world and flies free in the skies of Mauritius, the tropical paradise of the Indian Ocean.Dry shake ingredients, then shake with cubed ice, double strain into chilled glass. Flip and Flight

In fact, I've become somewhat of a rum collector! The next botanical is the delicate petals of Reunion orchids. These petals release floral honey notes with hints of white flower and gentian. The pigeon was spotted by Greater Manchester Police in Bury town centre as they undertook Operation Heartbeat. In 1852, Dr Pierre Charles François Harel developed the concept of local distillation of rum in Mauritius, using only the finest local ingredients from his vast Pamplemousses Garden Estate to create a liquor of outstanding quality and pure refinement. Dry shake, shake with cubed ice, double strain into a chilled flute glass (coated with a crusted spray of vanilla and salt solution). Appearance: Light straw/gold On swirling coats the glass with a nice appropriately oily coating which then forms legs and some droplets

Situated one thousand miles off the southeastern coast of Africa, the remote island of Mauritius was settled by the Dutch in 1507. Much like other European countries at the time, the Dutch used the settlement's tropical climate and indigenous population to cultivate the crops they were unable to harvest on the European continent, including sugar cane and ebony. By the time the Dutch abandoned the colony in 1710, the island of Mauritius had developed extensive sugarcane plantations and relied on the crop as its main export. As a result, Pink Pigeon Rum has a rich, golden color, along with an aroma of sweet vanilla, delicate spices and cloves. The aroma gives way to notes of soft citrus, vanilla, caramel and whipped cream, and leads to a smooth, semi-sweet finish. "Pink Pigeon Rum is the embodiment of all that is good from our tropical paradise," says Chatel. Having said this there are a number of constellation which can bee seen all year round in Mauritius as they never drop below the horizon. These are called circumpolar constellations. Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.Palate: Custard to the fore, with a little toffee brittle, guava and cardamom. Hints of nutmeg and cedar.

In 1991 only about 10 pink pigeons remained in the wild. Due to a very successful species recovery programme the population had risen to nearly 500 individuals in 2014. The rare and beautiful Pink Pigeon is endemic to Mauritius and one of the rarest birds in the world. But did you know it also lends its name to a homegrown Mauritian brand? One of the distillery’s strong points is that it was designed to provide a holistic tourism experience to guests. Mauritian architect Maurice Giraud has created a building that blends harmoniously with the spectacular surroundings. Wood, natural stone, and water provide a sense of communion with nature, turning the distillery into one of the most beautiful factories in the world. Another strong point of the distillery is that it was created to produce the finest rum. Most of the night skies wonders are visible only at certain periods of the year, as there is a long list and I am by no means an expert I will link the best astronomy tools below. Native only to Mauritius, the pink pigeon is now one of the rarest birds in the world and used to be widely distributed throughout the island. Today, pink pigeons are found only in four sub-populations located in remote, forested, or mountainous regions of southwestern Mauritius. This Rum is produced in the Island of Mauritius which was once home of the Dodo, but is now home to the Pink Pigeon. The Pink Pigeon Rum is produced and distilled on the Medine Estate, in the Medine Estate.
