They would no doubt enjoy the illustrations of animals, but the deeper allegorical meaning of the book might well be difficult for them to understand. It is a history of migration but not just factual as the book is written with empathy and personal anecdotes.But he himself notes Olaudah Equiano’s account of the crossing, in which the slave ship’s side were lined with nets to prevent precisely that. Houses and permanent settlements are a relatively late development - dating back little more than ten thousand years.
