As the full-grain leather of the Blundstone 550 ages, it develops a patina, which is the change in color over time.This change is considered to be a desirable characteristicof the boot. The Blundstone 550 uses a mold-injected TPU outsole that’s cemented onto the leather upper. This is my biggest concern with Blundstones—yes, cemented construction is cheap and fast, but if the glue fails or if it wasn’t applied perfectly, there’s a good chance the leather will separate from the sole. I also like that the footbed is removable so you can add your own custom insert if you struggle with foot fatigue or any sort of pain.

Blundstone boots are made with various materials and each one requires a different level of care. One of the best-selling Blundstone boots, the 500 design is made from quality premium leather. A classic pull-on Chelsea boot with elastic side panels to make this effortless. These lightweight boots have PU/TPU rubber outsole with removable insoles. Available in Stout Brown leather. The 550 is the 500 but with a few improvements and new technology. For some of you, these will be worth the new price point and for others, you will be just fine continuing to wear the original style. Honestly, both versions are great, it will just be up to your individual needs and preferences.

When Blundstone first released the 550, they called it the Super 550. But a few years in, they changed the name to the Classic 550. Blundstones come in UK/AU sizes, which are different than US sizing. For instance, I’m a size 10.5 in US sizing, which makes me a size 9.5 in AU sizing, which Blundstone uses.
