But is development actually a disposable film camera’s final destination? Fujifilm offers a free recycling program for their one-time-use cameras. If one-time use plastics makes you cringe, choose a developer that uses Fujifilm’s recycling program. Focus These little cameras are about as easy to use as it gets for film. The film is already loaded, all you do is advance the film via thumb wheel until it won’t turn anymore, then simple look through the viewfinder and take a snap. If you want a little fill flash, just push the button up on the front of the camera until the pop-up plastic piece turns red, which means the flash is ready, see pic below. The reason to work with film is color, and the Superia film inside didn’t disappoint. Well, maybe if you’re expecting super accurate vivid digital camera colors you’ll be disappointed. The colors were a bit more muted. There’s some definite gold undertones. The greenery has a deeper color that I often edit into my digital files. Skies are a bluish gray. The viewfinder is nearly impossible to use underwater with goggles, so you can’t really see what you are shooting underwater.

The Specifications below are for the 800 speed film camera which is not available anymore as far as I can tell, but the waterproof one is still current. I could not find the white sheet for the ISO 400 film camera, however, because I don’t think they’d have two different models for each type of film, I’d guess the specs are the same for the ISO 400 camera with the exception of the flash range, which is now 3 meters maximum instead of the listed 4 meters. I read the tech specs — so I didn’t take the camera inside and end up with dark, unusable photos. The camera will take reasonably lit photos on sunny days and with partial clouds. Underwater, you’ll need to stay in that top ten feet of water and be sure to use it when the sun is giving off the most light. Don’t use this camera indoors, it’s not made for indoors. Image Quality When the electronic flash is switched on, a flash-ready indicator pops up from the top of thecamera and lights, indicating that a flash picture can be taken. It stays lit up until the flashswitch is moved to the "OFF" position. The grip is optimally designed, allowing the camera to be held comfortably for smoothoperation along with easy and quiet winding. I found one of my favorite features of the camera when I dropped it in the pool the first time: it floats! This is great for preventing a lost camera while you’re adventuring over water. It was still easy to hold on to underwater.

Of course, film is about both color and grain. There’s an obvious texture to each photo. But, the grain is the good kind of grain, if there’s a good kind. It’s not color noise but a more soft, uniform texture. Once the photo is taken, a chunky film winder at the top advances the film. Again, the winder is intentionally big to make it easier to grip with wet or gloved hands. The camera won’t let you take a second shot without advancing the film. If you’re looking for cool double exposure effects, you’re going to have to look elsewhere. A window next to the winder shows how many photos are left on the roll. The flash is for fill only as the shutter speed is set at 1/140 second. However, it’s quite powerful considering the F/10 aperture, and much more so than your very best smartphone flash or LED. A great one to take to parties, its 27 exposures of Fujicolor 400 ISO film give truly excellent results, whilst its powerful built-in 3 metre range flash is adequate for regular indoor or night-time shooting situations. Number of exposures: Fuji uses their Superia 400 film which is marketing by itself as 24 exposures, but loading in a darkroom as they do when making the camera yields 27 images. You can get 27 images on any roll of 24 as long as you can load the camera yourself in the dark and do not have to advance it to the first shot mark; however, with motorized auto loading cameras, you probably won’t get any more than 25. Fujifilm reminds you of the focusing limitations right on the camera. Still, I had a few snapshots where I was a little too close and the image is fuzzy. Since I wasn’t shooting with a measuring tape, I’m pretty sure it was user error. Ease of Use
