Plus Honey-Belle is the coolest name out there, and based on her personality, she is literally my dream girl. Because before you can worry about who’s in your passenger seat, you have to learn to drive yourself.” Kelly Quindlen is excellent in making me fall in love with her characters. Her previous book's - Late to the Party - main caharacter was in love with her friend group, too, just like Scottie, just like me through them.

Perfectly captures the joys and hopes and thrills of being a real, authentic teenager . . . A fantastic read for queer teens today.”—Kacen Callender, Stonewall and Lambda Award–winning author This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story The narration of the audiobook by Piper Goodeve, was great. I felt like I watched a movie when I was done. All the characters came alive and felt like they had their own voices. It didn’t feel like anyone was just slightly different, instead I could easily tell which character was talking from their unique voice and this is a large cast since it takes place at high school, parties, and with families. Minus one dad character voice that was pretty over the top, I think this is one of the more impressive audiobook narrations I’ve heard before so I would easily recommend it. This has the one-bed trope which I love, of course. But, I feel like the author could have definitely done more with it. It was quite brief and not super developed or elaborated on. There wasn’t any of the “they woke up in each other's arms” thing which was a little painful and just a waste of opportunity, really. I just know it could have been done so well; it could have been cold because of the ac and stuff so they'd have to hold each other to stay warm, or the nightmare trope possibly. Just felt like a missed opportunity. A little sweet, a little sharp, this romance will resonate with readers looking for an emotional journey."— Booklist, starred review This book was such a delight to read. Like it was so wholesome and refreshing, definitely due for a reread sometime soon. This was such a lovely YA sapphic romance. Unfortunately, I've struggled to like YA romances like Not My Problem and Starry Eyes because the romance is really underdeveloped and there's a lot of side-filler that I cannot bring myself to care about. But, this book does not do that. The romance was sweet, we had tension, we had tropey moments and ugh it was just splendid. I also love these high school romances sm, like yes, give us what we wish we had tbh. That girl. Like I’m some pathetic nonfactor who means nothing to Tally. She obviously didn’t think I was worth mentioning to her new teammates. Also I’m obsessed with Danielle and Kevin and Honey-Belle and Gunther I love when there are side character romances. And the way they supported their friends was so heartwarming <3

My first queer/lesbian book I’ve read and i can’t wait to read more. Our community She Drives Me Crazy is cheesy and campy and angsty in the absolute best way possible. With brilliant character development and dynamics, an exploration of heartbreak, the effects of a toxic relationship and the importance of looking past preconceptions, Kelly Quindlen has created a story that will resonate with lots of teens, especially queer ones. The characters of She Drives Me Crazy are messy and flawed which just makes them all the more real. With nods to classic rom coms and expert trope usage, this book is perfect for anyone looking for some good teen fun, a lovely sapphic romance and expertly written characters. The public, grand love displays 😖. I'm sorry, I find them so cringey, embarrassing, and unrealistic. I don't find it romantic at all 😭

See a Problem?

The writing of this book was incredible. I read this in two sittings and absolutely flew through it – in fact, it could have been one sitting if I hadn't started it so late at night. The story and Scottie’s voice just immediately gripped me and I couldn’t put it down. With a fast pace, great dialogue and just so much fun, reading She Drives Me Crazy was a joy. This is my consecutive fourth ARC where the theme is toxic relationships and have to say it's one of the ones that handles it best. This was not just a cutesy romcom as I expected it to be but also a much intense story of healing and moving forward. Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgalley. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.) You would think, based on the fact that I’ve watched the Say Anything … boom box scene a million times, that I wouldn’t have bumblebees in my stomach when my cheerleader girlfriend reenacts it for me in the school parking lot. The point guard does that hand-twirl signal when she wants the forwards to cross-swap, she says in a hushed tone. They’re gonna run out to the wings to pull the attention away from the top of the key—

Scottie just broke up with her girlfriend Tally and lost spectacularly to her in the basketball game. And she is now extremely embarrassed. And there is only one solution to show her ex that she is okay. No not only okay but better and moved on. A deeply heartfelt and emotionally honest celebration of late bloomers, queer solidarity, and friendships both old and new. This book has a permanent place in my heart." —Dahlia Adler, author of Under the Lights. Scottie Zajac plays basketball at Grandma Earl High School and she is a die-hard fan of old school music and movies. Irene Abraham is the head cheerleader for the Fighting Reindeer and she is also Scottie’s biggest adversary. I’m going to be totally honest and admit that I wasn’t fond of Irene when she was first mentioned but I eventually warmed up to her when I saw a vulnerable side of her that she rarely allows anyone to see. My heart went out to Scottie from the beginning because I could easily relate to some of the self-esteem issues she had after her agonizing breakup with her ex-girlfriend. The classic, unavoidable, miscommunication trope (sigh). There was no reason for that, and the ex-drama that was randomly interwoven with that was also annoying and frustrating. Her dark eyes sizzle like I’ve just said something offensive. “Do you know nothing?” she snaps. “You should never apologize after a car accident. It’s an admission of fault.”

Summary

I don’t think there’s anything better than binge reading this hilarious young adult novel because it has flawed and relatable teenagers who are trying to sort out their emotional baggage and their unexpected attraction to each other. I’ve always been a certified book nerd and I don’t have an athletic bone in my body but I must say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the basketball games and the practice sessions because I got to live vicariously through Scottie and her teammates. Plus, this story had enough angst and drama to keep me anchored to my couch for hours on end. By the way, this book cover is adorable and I love everything about it! Cons And Heads Up Tally Gibson was the first and only person I ever loved. She transferred to my school at the beginning of junior year with all the airs of the big city and a drive to prove herself on and off the court. The first time we talked, she tugged on my ponytail and told me I had the prettiest red hair she’d ever seen. The first time we kissed, it was like a flash fire ripped through me. She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen is a highly entertaining young adult rom-com that highlights the importance of being true to yourself and learning how to let go and move on from painful experiences no matter how daunting it may seem at first. This was just so heartwarming idkkk!!!!!!! The writing was also concise and addictive, so much so that I was able to read this all in one night.

People break our hearts, but they create more room in them first, and that room makes it possible for us to become more ourselves. Late to the Party is right on time to being your favorite read. I didn’t want my time with Quindlen’s characters to end.”—Sara Farizan, Lambda Award–winning author of If You Could Be Mine Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. After losing spectacularlyto her ex-girlfriend in their first basketball game since their break up, Scottie Zajac gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her nemesis, the incredibly beautiful and incredibly mean cheerleading captain, Irene Abraham. Things only get worse when their nosey, do-gooder moms get involved and the girls are forced to carpool together until Irene’s car gets out of the shop.

Quindlen ( Her Name in the Sky) deftly conveys both the awkwardness of outgrowing an old life without having a clue how to move toward a new one. — Publisher Weekly
