Dr. Gerber’s book, Eat Rich, Live Long, on chronic disease, root causes and resolution strategies (co-authored with chemical engineer and data scientist Ivor Cummins) was released February 2018. This book has changed all that for me. It presents the science behind this in a way that meets the needs of even sceptics like me. Simply and in enough detail to give an understanding of how all this incredibly complicated biochemistry works without making your eyes glaze over p354 "people with verified FH (familial hypercholesterolemia) should discuss PREVENTATIVE treatment options with a specialist in the field" The advice to have a CAC, coronary artery calcium scan done to find your CAS Score. I have been a radiation worker for forty years, six years with nuclear reactors, and 34 years working on diagnostic imaging equipment, X-ray machines. X-rays are not harmless, the more people who receive more exposure than absolutely necessary the more people who may suffer health issues caused by the radiation exposure.

Does a high-protein diet increase muscle mass and lead to vigorous health-or can it promote aging, cancer, and early mortality? Which vitamins and minerals should we be taking, if any? How do we change our metabolism so that our bodies burn fat instead of all the sugars we consume? Does intermittent fasting really work? Eat Rich, Live Long lays out the truth based on the latest scientific research, and it will change the way you look at eating. I watched many of Ivor's videos and just finished reading his new book, “Eat Rich, Live Long”. His and Jeff's book is the most impressive and valuable that I have seen in the field of health assessment and improvement because it not only explains what and when to eat, but the “why”, i.e., the mechanisms behind the great advantages of a low carb diet. As a scientist, I greatly appreciate that you delved so deeply into this topic. I bought multiple copies of your book to give to my Medical Doctor and my friends and family. I have never bought multiple copies of any book before; I think it is that good. Jeffry N. This is all about WILL POWER which can't be sustained over 5-10 years with terrible hunger caused by a low calorie diet and low leptin. In 2010 Dr. Gerber received the honorary Degree of Fellow, FAAFP from the AAFP for his commitment to family medicine and contributions to the local community. Years ago when breast cancer was a hot topic, many hospitals advocated women have mammogram x-ray exams done, but studies believed there was a chance the x-ray exposures from the mammogram exams might cause more breast cancers than the exam finds. In healthcare these kind of things, for drugs or radiation exposure medical exams etc., are rated by NNT, Numbers Needed to be Treated, iow how many people needed to be treated by a drug to help one person. For example I think the NNT for the cholesterol statin drugs is 104, only 1 person in 104 is helped by taking a statin drug. Within that group several instead of being helped will suffer from the negative side effects. That number is calculated by the NNH, Number Needed to be Harmed. [do an internet search for NNT for statins and NNH for statins] Besides we now know high LDL cholesterol is not a real concern, and it should have never been declared as 'bad cholesterol', nor should we have been sent charging down the path to eat low health fats, or low dietary cholesterol foods. Medicine and the food industry have for various reason, good and bad, paved the way going in the wrong direction to find better health. He is the owner of Denver’s Diet Doctor, South Suburban Family Medicine, author of the book Eat Rich Live Long. He organizes medical nutrition conferences, and eats and recommends a low-carb diet. Millions of people have gotten healthy through low-carb plans over the years—and a growing number have discovered the wonderful benefits of k This book is transformational, for me at least. Like anyone reading this I've read a lot of books on healthy eating etc and have changed my eating regime tohigher fat, lower carb natural foods. Only foods my grandmother would recognise. And I knew that Type 2 diabetes is a result of insulin resistance which tself is a result of eating badly and particularly eating high carb. If I only considered it's Lipoprotein particle or ApoB and weight maintenance sections I would give it one star. Dr. Jeffry Gerber has no financial ties to pharmaceutical, diagnostics or medical device companies. He has no financial ties to the food industry. The authors neglect the science that the excess fat cells the obese have never disappear even with Bariatric surgery. The large number of shrunken fat cells in the reduced obese have a very low leptin level.Dr. Gerber, his wife and three children love the outdoors, and enjoy all that the wonderful state of Colorado has to offer. Potential conflicts of interest Nutritional ketosis and high protein does provided satiety over the short term. There nothing to show it works more that 5-10 years. The number of fat cells has the last word. No way to increase the low leptin in the shrunken fat cells other than to regain weight. I decreased my exercise, and eat ad libitum and did not gain weight even while I traveled around the world. I probably didn’t lose weight because I ate a lot of protein. The authors explain this phenomenon on p 309. Very high amounts of protein are okay if you are trying build muscle with a weight lifting program. Dr. Gerber is also the co-organizer of Low Carb Conferences, a yearly educational event for healthcare professionals and anyone else interested in learning about the latest science related to diet and health.
