I never have to look down at it like a foreign feeling controller to see where buttons are and what they need to do. Some games have hit detection issues but these problems seem to come down to game design, as the pad works great with most titles. There are three versions of the kit available, quick solder boards for SEGA 315-5237 and SEGA 315-5216 chips, and a standard free mounting version.

I found a Sega Genesis controller to be preferable (particularly ones that had a built in turbo feature), yet even that was not as enjoyable, and I didn’t like the mapping of the buttons to B and C rather than A and B. My Brief Sega Master System Controller Hunt: If you’re new to the Sega Master System, as I was until recently, you’ll not find a multitude of options outside of the original controller readily available.

I saw the RetroGameBoyz work on Twitter and new what they had to offer is something that all of our readers should be aware of. Of course, none of this resolves the lack of a Pause button on any of the controllers (the ‘Pause’ button is located on the console itself). I got lucky, I guess, in that the system set I bought had 2 controllers that worked absolutely perfectly. This built-in feature is amazing, as games like Vigilante become vastly easier when you don’t have to pound a button over and over, but instead can simply hold down said button. This version was introduced and most commonly associated with the Sega Master System II and was the only model used in Brazil.

I prefer the basic controller with the wire out of the top, I have never owned one with the wire out of the side. This kit allows you to access the important in game menus with your controller to vastly improve the Master System gaming experience.

Less cramping happens as you’re not wrapping the entirety of your hands and fingers around a controller.

I think having it be wired gives you the retro experience you remember and the long cord keeps you from the reality that you’re not in 1989 anymore with all of its shortcomings. The buttons are well suited to rapid bashing and it's sturdy enough that only the most heavy handed would stand a chance to break it. However alongside the NES pad, the competition of the day, it just falls down by having no pause button. While in some games, I found that the pad worked perfectly, but in others, my on-screen character didn’t consistently crouch/climb/move when/where I needed him to. The D-Pad has a hole in the centre which allows for a small "thumbstick" to be inserted (much like Sega's earlier consoles).
