Description

The mini test pitched the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor against a newly released product, and assessed both on inflation rate, hose and lead length, as well as the accessories that come with each. The Ring RAC900 performed well across the board, being named “a great little machine”. During inflation, “Ring has the edge”, adding 3PSI more per minute to the tyre compared to the competition. The analogue gauge was “more accurate”, the air release valve was noted, as was the fact that “everything goes together via quality brass fittings”.

Below are the three Inflation Adapters included for inflating balls, airbeds, paddling pools, etc.: Inflation Adapters

With the RING Automotive Air Compressor RAC900 the hose is attached by screwing the brass Schrader valve attachment onto the valve until it seals against a sealing ring. The valve attachment has a push and turn mechanism to allow the tyre to be deflated when the pressure is too high while the compressor is still attached to the wheel valve. The compressor comes with an instruction label attached to the pipe but it may rip off easily. The RAC 900 is a 30Amp machine, hence if on full load is 3 times over a "ciggy lighter's" rating as cyberyacht points out. I keep mine at home as accessing directly onto my car's battery is "challenging".

Tyre Inflation - Advice please - Motorhome Matters - Out

Just came across this entry - been away in van -. I have had 2 compressors in the past and finally they gave up the ghost. I went to Halfords to buy another nbut the assistant told me that although it wouldf take my tyres up to 80psi I would have to deflate them to about 40psi to take the start up pressure off the compressor as there was a risk of burning it out if this wasn't done. Inflating a motorhome tyre with a portable 12 volt compressor is likely to burn out the motor before the tyre is up to pressure. And it will take an eternity. I've no interest in further cluttering up my garage with the type of compressor you bought, but I do value the versatility of a powerful 12V tyre-pump that takes up little storage space and can travel with me in my motorhome. If people are looking for a pump most suitable for inflating motorhome tyres at any time or place, then I don't think there's anything better on the market than the RAC-900. If they just want a mains-powered pump, then they can do as you did, but they won't be able to travel with it. In using them, we could also determine if their power leads and air hoses were long enough – longer ones make the units easier to position and cordless ones are even better. We also found that the screw-on style couplings were the best and easiest to use.Yesterday I had another look at it and tried inflating the van tyre .. no good it wouldn't work.. so I called Ring Technical help.. 0113 2132000 The average car battery may have a capacity, when new, of 50 Ampere Hours, i.e. if you connected a device that would draw 25 amps (and the RAC900 draws 23 amps) the battery would be drained in 2 hours. I have the RING RAC900 identified by johnDL and can report I have been very pleased with it on my 65 psi tyres. I know that falls well below the OP's 5.5 bar 80 psi target but it is the best DC inflator by miles I have come across. My more toy earlier ones were fine out of the box but a few years in limped to get above 60 psi.

Ring RAC700 4x4 Air Compressor - Practical Motorhome Ring RAC700 4x4 Air Compressor - Practical Motorhome

It's about 2ft long and takes up more space than a compressor but really easy to use IMO no leads to move around. also use it on the bikes ! WARNING: Tampering with the safety valve or hose connection at the compressor is likely to invalidate any guarantee and may introduce safety issues so I will not recommend it. In testing, our team also realised that they preferred screw-on style couplings between the air hose and the tyre valve, as they are easier to use than other types and more foolproof, too.

Also Known As

To be honest if I faced a total flat then the associated whole issue of me doing the spare wheel change and inflation at the roadside is now something "management" would veto, and it becomes Green Flag's task. Tyres will gradually lose pressure and most people's requirement for a tyre pump will be to 'top up' that pressure occasionally. A 12V pump is ideal for that purpose, but, to handle the pressure and volume of air in a motorhome's tyres, the pump needs to be a good one. I wouldn't have thought that the 42 seconds the on-test RAC-900 took to inflate a motorhome tyre from 50psi to 60psi can be classed as "an eternity".

Thanks to its preset pressure function, you can adjust it to your desired levels and the unit will inflate and switch off on completion. It also has a handy memory feature that remembers the last programmed tyre pressure, reducing inflation time and making it faster and easier to get all four tyres up to the correct pressure levels. While on the aire at Gravelines, a motorcyclist came over from the road and asked if I could help with a tyre inflator.. his rear tyre was soft.. The Halfords product is OK, but the lever-operated connector is crudely made and far from sturdy - I accidentally stood on mine and the connector and hose parted company.Additionally, it comes with an LED light complete with three modes, so you can use it to warn ongoing traffic if you are in an emergency situation. Under the base, there is a well-designed cord storage area that prevents too many kinks from occurring, as well as a handy area to store the included nozzles and adaptors. Designed with one-button control, it is straightforward to use and comes complete with three accessory adaptors. With a respectable maximum pressure of 80 PSI, a 2.9-metre power cable that connects to your car’s 12V outlet, and a 48cm air line, this mini tyre compressor is a highly functional piece of kit. The RAC830 Caravan and Motorhome Rapid Digital Tyre Inflator is ideal for campervans, motorhomes, 4X4s, SUVs, caravans, minibuses and vans. I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet.
