These truffles really are pure indulgence, the bitter cocoa powder coats a gooey ganache centre that is studded with chewy pieces of caramel which melt in your mouth. All of these rich flavours may sound like a sugar overload, but the bitter cocoa and salt in the caramel balances the flavours perfectly. At 260g, it’s a decent sized egg for the price, particularly as it comes with 100g of mini dark chocolate eggs too. What: It’s a hot cross bun, but not as you know it. This tasty treat swaps your classic bun for chocolate and more chocolate, but the chocolate is spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and the like, and loaded with raisins and orange jelly pieces. Master chocolatiers MELT, who handmake their products in London’s Notting Hill, have three luxury vegan Easter eggs to choose from this year, including the new almond milk egg.

Many have tried to capture the creamy texture and flavour of white chocolate when making a vegan version, but few have succeeded. They’re often overly sweet with an almost waxy texture. Kakoa’s egg, however, has the perfect amount of sweetness and isn’t cloying on the tongue. The chocolate itself is very smooth, but once that has dissolved in your mouth you’re left with very tiny flakes of cocoa nib. Not too much, not too little, just enough to set this Easter treat apart from the rest.

What: Daylesford Organic’s gorgeous golden egg is made from sustainably sourced Peruvian cacao, and features a dark chocolate shell stuffed with smooth hazelnut truffle. The egg cup itself is whittled from walnut, so you can keep that for boiled eggs and soldiers in the morning. I then mix in melted butter – you can use baking spread, but sometimes this makes it greasy. If you find your biscuit bases are a little hard, you can reduce the butter to about 100g. Also, if you want to use a chocolate covered biscuit, filled biscuit, light biscuit, or buttery biscuit like shortbread you need to use 100g of butter as well as they require less. What: Chocolate orange fans, this one's for you - Selfridges’ egg mixes single origin dark chocolate with zesty orange chocolate, and it looks pretty smart too. There are two other delicious flavours available too - a praline and a tasty malted blonde version. As soon as they decided to bring out terry’s chocolate orange themed mini eggs I knew I would be buying tonnes of them – they just taste SO good, and they are habitually encouraging my love for terry’s daily. I love them – and they look cute too.

The creamy chocolate egg is generously studded with pieces of honeycomb throughout, and the chocolate itself is very sweet. I loved the hint of sea salt which added extra pops of sweetness throughout and made it even more moreish. Buy now: M&S Extremely Chocolatey Caramel Latte; M&S Extremely Chocolatey Orange Explosion M&S Easter Chocolate AnimalsWhat: Happi’s oat milk chocolate is one of the better vegan and free-from options we’ve come across, and they do multiple flavours including salted caramel and chocolate orange. This classic plain milk chocolate option is excellent too, though - so good that you might never return to the real deal. What: Venchi is the last word in luxury Italian chocolate, so who better to turn to when you want the best of the best? This incredible white chocolate egg is hiding a little surprise inside - a layer of Piedmontese hazelnuts, pistachios and lightly salted almonds. For me, this chocolate is a great option for both milk and dark chocolate lovers because it contains 45% cocoa so is both creamy yet ultra-rich and chocolatey too. It’s an incredibly smooth milk chocolate that melts beautifully in your mouth. The first hit you get is definitely coconut, which gives way to leave a lingering taste of cacao. This is not the usual chocolate that’s reserved for kids. It’s really, really good.

You can make the biscuit base chocolate themed for this Easter chocolate orange cheesecake by using 25g cocoa powder in the base. I prefer doing this compared to using a chocolate biscuit as I find the melted butter melted the chocolate and creates a more mushy base! For the topping I just use a sweetened whipped cream (like normal….) but that is optional as always! I just think it looks nice, and personally I like it. I then added a combination of the milk chocolate orange mini eggs, and white chocolate orange mini eggs (although they look the same.).This egg is genuinely stunning, the unique out casing is hand-painted in India, and each flavour has its own distinct floral design. Inside, the egg is lined with fabric and filled with Booja Booja’s legendary organic vegan truffles. Romney isn’t particularly big, so this is on the more expensive side for an Easter treat, but for fans of both dark chocolate and marshmallows it’s a must. Cookie dough is one of my favourite flavours and the adorable NOMO bunny included in this egg really delivers on this. It was hard to believe that it was gluten-free, it gave such a rich, biscuity flavour! What: Another beloved Swiss chocolatier, Laderach is best known for slabs of nuttyFrischSchoggi, which is also available in bunny shapes this Easter. If you're keeping things a bit more classic, go for this handsome Easter Bunny in Laderach's delicious milk chocolate (but also available in lots of other flavours and combos). What: Irish luxury chocolatiers Butlers are a safe option this Easter - not only are they one of the few remaining family-owned chocolatiers around, but they have a great rep for sustainable sourcing and delicious chocolate. There are lots of different eggs on offer but we’d keep it classic with this smooth milk chocolate number.

What: Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpiller - two iconic treats that are getting an Easter makeover from M&S this year. Treat the chocolate lover in your life to a giant Percy Pig or Colin face - the latter is white chocolate, and Percy is milk chocolate so they cover all bases.

The cardboard 3D puzzle that comes with the box is simple to put together and a nice little keepsake. There are 6 different rabbit designs to collect (from English Spot to Lion Head), and each puzzle comes with a fact sheet to tell you about that type of bunny, which adds a gently educational element.
