The last thing to consider is sheen! Sheen refers to the amount of light the finish reflects from the surface. Contrary to popular belief this does not have any influence over durability. Third Coat: Usually a third coat is not required, however highly absorbent or dry timbers may appear to require a third coat. For cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied especially thinly.

Regular Cleaning: Dust mopping using the green Dust-Mop from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Damp mopping using diluted Osmo Wash and Care and the Micro-Mop plush from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Alternatively use the convenient Osmo Spray-Mop. Hi I’m Jay from Wood Finishes Direct, In this video I’m going to be highlighting the key things you should consider before starting your project with the I would recommend taking a look at the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints and the Blanchon Hard Wax Oil Tints as possible options to consider too. Clear oils can darken the appearance of the wood. To retain the light character of oak please use Osmo Polyx®-Oil 3044 Raw. We bought enough reclaimed pine floorboards to cover the bottom floor of our (open plan) house. When choosing a product to seal it, we were recommended Osmo hardwax oil by the supplier.Considering half the floor is now tinted (tainted?) with Osmo Raw, how can we get a consistent finish across the whole surface? Osmo Top Oil does look good, but it doesn’t last, or protect your timber very well. For this reason, I tend to look at the alternatives. The alternative will be to take a look at some of the coloured oils that will colour and protect like the Polyx you have already used. Bear in mind that when oils soak into a wood they will naturally highlight the tones of the wood and so for Pine this can be oranges or pinks, and this can happen even if the oil is pigmented. So again those test areas are vital.

I would see how you get on in the next week or so and if it does start to mark easily then perhaps a light sand to remove the excess, a wipe down with Methylated spirits and the result should be better. A base coat of Osmo Wood Protector 4006 is recommended for use in bathrooms or kitchens. Please be aware that Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may darken the wood very slightly.A trial application is highly recommended. I live in a Victorian seaside town with a lot of old houses. One of the services I offer as a professional decorator is the renovation of old floorboards. Now old floorboards were never meant to be on show when installed and they’re often very beaten up. I quite like that though as it just adds to the character. Osmo Polyx-Oil is my product of choice for coating the floorboards up for a few reasons. The rich, deep, subtle finish has the perfect affect to suit any older house or farm cottage. The finished product seems to last for years and years. Osmo Polyx Oil Tints which come in a range of colours. The whole Polyx Oil range comes in handy 5ml sachets to do your test areas before purchasing a bigger tin. Free sachet delivery is available on all Rust-Oleum sachets. These are shipped direct from the manufacturer using Whistl. Can take 5-10 working days.Wood surfaces treated with Polyx®-Oil Tints are easy to maintain. Remove coarse dirt with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wash and Care concentrate to mop water and clean the surface with a damp (not wet!) mop. Untreated wood in its original form has a light, pale character from its natural 'raw' appearance. Sanded wood also has the same effect. Osmo Polyx-Oil 3044 Raw is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to neutralise the permanent 'wet-look' that develops after application of a clear finish.

Osmo Polyx® oils are developed from natural oils and waxes to help and provide the most hardwearing and durable protection for wooden flooring and furniture. Let me show you a very simple test called the water test. All you need is a drop of water, apply a drop to the wood and leave for 30 seconds, easy right? If the water beads then you know there is an existing finish on there. If the water sinks in this would indicate that there is an untreated surface so you can move straight on to application. Apply first coat very thinly with an Osmo Double Blade Scraper, or other suitable applicator for cork floors. For small projects, an Osmo Soft Tip Brush can be used Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure:Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw is slightly white tinted and protects lighter coloured wood species nearly invisibly. On dark, reddish or ‘smoked / fumed’ wood species, Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw is visible as slightly white chalky surface. Applying excess Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw 3044 may also lead to a white chalky surface. Remove visible white pigments before allowing the surface to dry.A trial application is recommended. Buffing is not really something that helps with these oils, they dry hard and although they do contain some waxes or resins they do not increase much in shine when you buff them. The oil is inside the wood and so there is little for light to bounce off unlike wax that remains on the surface of the wood and is much more reflective.
