A Short Film About Love’ was the cinematic extension of the sixth episode of his highly acclaimed Television drama ‘Dekalog’ and was one of his underappreciated works. Teenage angst and sexual infatuation have never been portrayed so beautifully in cinema as Kieslowski paints the madness, the enigma, the ecstasy, the melancholy of human emotion so delicate yet so profound and magical to be put into words. I wouldn’t give away much of the film here as it’s a film that means so much to me. It’s sad, painfully truthful, yet intoxicating. Once we were in the car and headed for home, I asked, “Why did Sonny get spanked?” She didn’t answer, so I patted her arm and tried again. “Mama, why was Aunt Bernice mad?” Arguably the most controversial film on the list, ‘Ma Mere’ is easily the most disturbing and unwatchable film about incest ever made. The film features the great Isabelle Huppert playing an incestuous mother obsessed with sex who asks her son to have sex with her. They make violent love as Helene asks her son to physically hurt her by cutting her abdomen, and as his masturbation reaches its climax, she slits her own throat. The film is blatantly provocative and, for the most part, plain unwatchable, but you just fail to take your eyes off of an explosive Isabelle Huppert, who is in top form here. It was then that I realized that a wet diaper was something more than cold and clammy. It was heavy.

It was getting near night. We ran outside and caught fireflies. "Glowbugs" we called them. Every once in awhile you would catch a moth too, and then let it go. It was fun to see who could catch the largest moth...once my sister caught one that had at least a 5 inch wingspan, but we teased her and said it was really a bat. A white bat.

This is true, and thank you for the suggestion. People, both men and women, are known to be more attracted to abusive partners as a result of having experienced childhood abuse. My hope is that not only the men reading this will realize that they no longer need to be with abusive women, but the women who have reading this who have survived abuse can also learn to attract normal (loving) men. I wish this for all survivors.

As for those of you have nae-say'd, and minimized my lived experiences and the experiences of other male survivors, I just wanted to thank you, as well... for you've given us a perfect example of what happens when male survivors attempt to speak publicly about the abuse they've survived, and especially when their abusers were women.
