Different kinds of goats' milk formula are available in pharmacies and shops. They are produced to the same nutritional standards as cow's milk-based formula. When we talk about formula milk, we are talking about baby formula or infant formula. It is gotten from cows’ milk that must have been treated to ensure that your baby’s health is not jeopardized after consuming it. Formula milk, also known as baby formula or infant formula, is usually made from cows' milk that has been treated to make it more suitable for babies. Infante et al. Only use soya formula if it has been recommended or prescribed by a health visitor or GP. Growing-up milk (toddler milk) Formula milk provides babies with the nutrients they need to grow and develop. However, it does not have the same health benefits as breastfeeding for you and your baby. For example, it cannot protect your baby from infections. First infant formula (first milk) Lactose intolerance is rare in babies. Symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, wind and bloating.Place the sterilised teat and cap on the bottle and shake well until powder is fully dissolved. Cool bottle under cold running water or in a bowl or jug of cold water until lukewarm, do not immerse the teat. Test temperature by shaking a few drops onto the inside of your wrist. They contain 100% whey protein, which has been partially hydrolyzed (broken down) and contains less lactose than standard formulas. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended that pregnant women and new mothers be informed on the benefits and superiority of breastfeeding – in particular the fact that it provides the best nutrition and protection from illness for babies. Mothers should be given guidance on the preparation for, and maintenance of, lactation, with special emphasis on the importance of a well-balanced diet both during pregnancy and after delivery. Unnecessary introduction of partial bottle-feeding or other foods and drinks should be discouraged since it will have a negative effect on breastfeeding. Similarly, mothers should be warned of the difficulty of reversing a decision not to breastfeed. Before advising a mother to use an infant formula, she should be advised of the social and financial implications of her decision: for example, if a baby is exclusively bottle-fed, more than one can (400 g) per week will be needed, so the family circumstances and costs should be kept in mind. Mothers should be reminded that breast milk is not only the best, but also the most economical food for babies. If a decision to use an infant formula is taken, it is important to give instructions on correct preparation methods, emphasising that unboiled water, unsterilised bottles or incorrect dilution can all lead to illness. Remember that formula will always be the formula, breast milk will be breast milk, and their health benefits are incomparable.

There are some concerns about the fact that soya contains phytoestrogens. These are found naturally in some plants.Approx. Age of Baby: 3 months, Approx. Your baby should be able to happily switch from the old formula to the new but if you would like to ease the transition, you might prefer to change over gradually. This may allow your little one time to adjust to the new milk. Benninga MA; MENA Infant Constipation Study Group, Vandenplas Y. Available from https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/constipation-children/constipation-in-babies-0-to-6-months/ Unless a midwife, health visitor or GP suggests otherwise, first infant formula is the only formula your baby needs. Your baby can stay on it when you start to introduce your baby's first solid foods at around 6 months and they can drink it throughout their first year.SMA ® Comfort is a special formula intended for the dietary management of bottle-fed babies with colic and constipation. It is suitable as the sole source of nutrition up to six months of age, and in conjunction with solid food up to 12 months of age. Colic usually involves repeated, excessive, and inconsolable crying. Suppose you notice that your baby is experiencing constipation. In that case, they will have fewer bowel movements or difficulty passing unusually small or large, hard stools. All babies will have a different pattern to their bowel movements. Constipation means when it is more difficult for your baby to have a poo, and symptoms include pooing less than 3 times in a week. Constipation in babies is usually easily managed. Many formulas include an additional prebiotic ingredient: oligosaccharides. These are often referred to as FOS or GOS, produced commercially from lactose and sucrose, or 2’-FL or LNnT, artificially made to mimic oligosaccharides found in breast milk. Billeaud C et al.
