Could I truly drop this monitor into my Verge-editing, game-blasting battlestation without missing a beat — and without babying the screen to avoid burn-in? I couldn’t even get my Vudu copy of Blade Runner 2049 to play in HDR, much less 4K, and Netflix was stuck at 1080p HDR during my Windows tests regardless of which browser (or app) I used. The LG UltraGear 27GR95QE lacks a VESA TrueBlack stamp of approval, carrying just a basic HDR10 tick. That monitor is a 21:9 ultra-wide, providing more screen space but running at a slower 165Hz refresh rate. For example, a small white window might appear bright, but if it expanded to cover the full screen it would dim down considerably.

I picked it because Rtings rated it one of the very best all-around monitors at the time — save for crummy HDR and the “IPS glow” that makes blacks look gray in a dark room. I fired up The Touryst, one of the few native 4K 120Hz games for PS5, and it worked smoothly downscaled to 1440p. Today, the most common digital connector comes in the form of HDMI and we're here to tell you what it is, what it does, and why you might need it. He's been covering games and tech for over ten years and has written for Dualshockers, WCCFtech, Tom's Guide, and a bunch of other places on the world wide web.milliseconds response time, the image remains buttery smooth even during fast-paced action - additionally supported by AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and the "NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible" certification. I can clearly see bright flickering when G-sync is activated, I know it can be "remedied" by limiting fps, but this problem seems strange to me since gsync is supported, this is the most annoying bug. Every part of that looks amazing because the majority of the scene is dark, with only those lights I just described — the glint of armor, ripples of sunlight in the moving water, flying sparks from a chainsaw — bursting through the scene. Expand the measurement area to the whole screen, and the brightness drops to around 160 nits over a sustained period. Disabling CPC makes the image way brighter, it makes much more of a difference than I thought it would, but it turns itself back on again every time the monitor turns off.

The V-shaped stand doesn't take up a lot of space either, so if you want to set up a pair of these side by side, it won't look too bad. As a multi-purpose monitor, it ticks all the boxes thanks to its high-quality OLED display, which looks great when playing the best AAA games or while watching high-quality HDR videos. As cheesy as it sounds, watching the sunset in New York City while sitting atop the Empire State Building in Spider-Man: Miles Morales was quite a sight. Contrast Ratio - Don’t compromise quality for speed—the LG UltraGear OLED screen delivers a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio for a deep, detailed quality picture and a lifelike gaming experience. It supports Nvidia G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, and generic 48–120Hz VRR at up to a downscaled 4K resolution for your PS5, Xbox, or streaming gadget.

There’s some blurring around text as you sit close to the monitor, but I never found it distracting while using the display. The update fixes that and some other bugs, then you will need to colour calibrate as it is to blue out the box.I didn’t notice the faintest bit of ghosting no matter how intense the action got in dozens of Overwatch 2 matches. The highest level I recorded in HDR mode was 652 nits, again from a 5% swatch rather than the total screen area. In the past, we have been treated to HD (high definition), denoting the screen is capable of running a minimum 720p resolution.

In modern projectors, the colour wheel also contains white and sometimes other colours such as cyan, magenta and yellow.Anti-Glare Screen - Play with less distractions thanks to an anti-glare screen that minimizes light reflections and lets you concentrate on winning. I jumped back and forth between Overwatch 2, Destiny 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and at least a dozen other games without adjusting a single setting on the monitor. If this is the case, there may be a lack of image detail or general blurring in the displayed image. So, even though the display was able to hit 837 nits in a small patch of white pixels, it can’t sustain that same peak across a large area. This addition is what helps the UltraGear OLED 27 get brighter than similar OLEDs, but it comes with a trade-off.
