Description

Bar Mitts are neoprene hand covers for cold weather riding, that attach to your handlebars, and provide enough protection and warmth, that a lighter glove can be worn.

I have a set of Moose Mitts I got this year and if not for them I don't think I would have ridden much/at all, my hands are just too messed up from too many bad rides with wrong gloves. The Bar Mitts keep my grips dry and snow-free at all times, which in turn makes for happy hands throughout the entirety of my ride. We've simply republished information exactly as we got it from our supplier without curating or improving it. I had originally thought I would only put on the Extreme model for the coldest days, but I now suspect the comfort range extends to warmer temperatures than I expected. The generational debate is always easy to solve: the riders of our youth are always better than the riders of today. All in all, I was thoroughly impressed with the warmth and shelter the Bar Mitts provide and looks be damned, these will surely become a staple for many winter rides to come. It's easy to operate trigger-shifters with these mitts; STI shifters are somewhat less easy to work, but can be used. I can wear my monstrous ski gloves to keep my hands warm, but I loose a great deal of dexterity, and they still get cold on a long ride. Simply put, either descending at speed or riding into a headwind, I felt no wind on my hands–the Bar Mitts blocked 100% of the wind. I was happy to be able to grab a bottle, open a bar/gel, or use my cycling computer whenever I wanted.

Just remember that you suddenly have a much larger side profile, and you should be fine, but I could feel a difference in handling the bike in 10-15 mph crosswinds. I'm talking wearing windstopper balaclava, moto/ski goggles, wool base, under softshell, and all that. It only took a few minutes to slip the Mitts over the ends of the handlebars, zip the sides around my shifter cables, and fasten the inner edge of the Mitts to the top of the handlebar with the velcro straps on the inside of the Mitts. As one can imagine, not being on the shifter and brake levers had its downfalls especially when it came to descents and emergency braking.Originally created in 1974 by a kayaker named Billy Nutt to stay warm while boating, pogies look roughly like T-shaped pouches, each with a large opening for the wrist and smaller openings on either side of the fist for each end of a kayak paddle.

In my first installation attempt, I did not find this new method particularly faster or easier to deal with. Neoprene polychloroprene is a synthetic rubber, that was invented by DuPont scientists in 1930, and is produced by polymerization of chloroprene (C4H5Cl).The handle bar mits are water proof, insulated, and comes in sifferent models and colors, with all the safety features every riders looks for. Strengthened by the many miles spent darting around Seattle's hilly streets on a steel single speed, Rook's progression in the sport was a quick one.

These waterproof mitts are made from 5mm thick neoprene with nylon lamination on each side, ensuring durability and insulation. Want to hear from the other side before committing to bar mitts, since no one took my Christmas hints! During the course of my test, I used full-finger gloves inside my pogies that are normally only warm enough down into the 40s. The warmer glove has a bit of a wind barrier where the lighter glove does not have any wind protection, but at the temps I wear it I don't need a wind barrier.Stays secure on the handlebars while the stiff, open body of the neoprene allows for easy hand access and removal. Other key features include removable velcro cuffs which you can use if the temps are really cold, or remove if you don’t need them.
