Description

The high ceilings, large loft windows and exposed brickwork have all been retained, and the complex is closed to traffic so people can stroll between venues. Wawel Castle is now home to one of Poland’s most prestigious art museums that house a collection of important Italian paintings, sculptures and textiles. The city is alive any time of the day with locals cheerfully having a drink in a local pub, or tourists, whether they be from Poland, or abroad, standing in awe of the Rynek Główny and its incredible architecture. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can marvel over the cavernous chambers, statues, chapels, chandeliers, and cathedrals — all carved out of salt and stone by the miners!

We would also like to send you exclusive promotions, competitions and content from The Times and Sunday Times and selected partners. You will never find this without google maps, and even when you do you wonder if you are in the right place. Get the KrakowCard – This card provides free public transportation and access to all of the city’s main attractions (40 different sites are included). Place in what used to be an old Jewish school (so I’ve been told) you can marvel at the metalwork the bar is decorated with, or you can get absolutely smashed in high-end cocktails. But while the staff and interior is very laid back, the food is not — it looks fantastic, and taste thereafter. Be sure to try the city’s most famous dish, pierogi — moreish dumplings filled with meat, mushrooms, cheese or potato. In the morning you can eat a solid breakfast, lunch there will be drinks, and in the evening there will often be a DJ set. On Palm Sunday between 10am and 1:30pm you can head to the Main Square to see a competition of “palms- beautiful handmade poles filled with color and vibrance; as well as, traditional song and dance all day long. A lot of it has to do with the fact that we are having such a good time with our friends that we forget to even take pictures!
