Description

And, at times, the image exhibits a hint of ghosting or motion blur, most notable on extreme close-ups or low-light scenes, especially the opening sequence, the underwater shots during the July 4th celebration, the scene where Brody makes Vaughn sign the contract to hire Quint (the worst looking scene of the transfer), and the scene with Hooper finding the large shark tooth. Despite it’s rather simple nature and leisured pace, which I welcome more than a lot of the modern day quick cut ones you get on many big studio releases now, it’s easily one of the most informative and engaging docs of its type and actually almost proves more fascinating than the finished product in some respects.

I come from the Bogside in Derry of Northern Ireland and I had absolutely no idea what a shark was, no concept at all - my brother Paddy, told me it was like a goldfish that was grey, that it was about the size of a bus and that it had rows of teeth the size of steak knives, oh yeah, and it also could bite a man clear in half below the waist - Yikes! For those unaware, The Jaws Log is a rather sordid, truthful account of the making of Jaws, from the film's humble beginnings, straight through the rather chaotic and tumultuous shoot. What we have here is a perfect movie, all it does is entertain, terrify adults and give little kids nightmares all night long. Some lines in the movie have stuck in my head over the years I've seen the movie that many times, so imagine my surprise when I realised what I thought they'd said, was in fact something entirely different. On a cinematic scale, Spielberg's film is a defining moment in the history of motion pictures, unexpectedly inaugurating the summer blockbuster approach to filmmaking which obviously still continues today. Had this print been cleaned up throughout the years, much like Star Wars, the heavy damage might not be there.

pretty much from the get go, and those improvements tend to continue unabated throughout the rest of the presentation. It's shows a malicious and mean streak in the man that's left for us to find ourselves in the final cut. As for the film the first of many Blockbuster from Spielberg and started what would become the Summer season of big films. I was very quickly quieted when I suddenly found myself enveloped in a rich lather of glorious uncompressed silky ocean spume.

As one of the most anticipated titles to hit Blu-ray, Spielberg's classic film arrives with a spectacular, reference-quality audio and video presentation that will more than satisfy movie lovers everywhere. As the packaging and the advertising has pointed out we get an entirely new restoration and transfer for this Blu-ray edition, approved by Spielberg. I would like to say thank-you to all the people involved in the making of this movie and to those responsible for bringing it on to Blu Ray because even when we first watched it on video and DVD we all knew the makers were going to need a bigger boat to do this movie justice.
