Alright, so Doctor Doom isn't setting the world on fire at the movies, but he's still one of the greatest villains in comics history!

Doctor Doom: The Book of Doom Omnibus - ReadComicOnline Doctor Doom: The Book of Doom Omnibus - ReadComicOnline

For years it was just assumed that he ruled his country with an iron fist and the people were miserable, but once it was revealed (in a couple different stories) that he was actually successful and ruled a prosperous and happy country, yet another dimension is added to this complex villain. He has had, however, the most impressive longevity of the company’s original “Big Three” – Torch, Subby and Captain America. These stories, featuring the work off some of the Silver Age’s most important creators, fleshed out the back-story of Doom while spotlighting the armored depot as a protagonist. It’s also the moment when Jonathan Hickman took over Fantastic Four and produced one of the most celebrated runs of modern Marvel comics. But no matter: that annual came soon enough, merely two years after his debut, and thus Marvel’s best villain was born. For characters like Loki and Doom, who have rarely had their own title, let alone an ongoing one, collecting their stories is complicated further, not just because they appear in scattered issues of the same title ( Thor for Loki; Fantastic Four for Doom), but also because the Marvel universe allows them to move to other titles. Doom stiffed Cage out of the cash because, as we established, Doom=dick, so Cage stole a high tech plane from the Fantastic Four and flew to Latveria. Despite the scope of the grand stakes at play, it ultimately builds to a confrontation between Doom and Reed - a physical one that gradually shifts into a more psychological battle of their minds and ideals. Lots of Silver age awesomeness in these issues between Doom, some early Kirby world building, and a very early heroic Marvel team up.

NO ONE RIVALS DOOM: Get Ready for THE BOOK OF DOOM OMNIBUS

Triumph and Torment graphic novel by Roger Stern and Mike Mignola, inked and colored by Mark Badger. Marvel’s new Secret Wars is an epic mash up of millions of possible realities, and of course, at the center of it all is Doctor Doom. Doom's journey in life eventually leads him to America, where he meets Reed and Ben for the first time, as well the accident that leads him to adopting his iconic armor. Pablo Raimondi, Mark Farmer, and Brian Reber capture the character in a splash where his visage dominates the perspective. If the likes of Emperor Doom and Triumph and Torment make us relate to Victor and even pity him in ways we haven’t before, Waid and Wieringo achieve the opposite in “Unthinkable”: Doom’s villainy reaches levels of depravity never seen before or since, taking the Fantastic Four and their entire family to the brink. Does the new omnibus cover the most relevant issues of the character and is it good omnibus for someone who doesnt know anything about the character? His fifth issue was a 40-page epic crafted to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of the team: reprising the classic origin and crafting a classic confrontation with both Doctor Doom and Puppet Master.
