There was nothing I did not like, everything works in this fantastic novel and I am predicting it will be an absolute hit with both current fans and new readers. As the investigations conclude there is yet one more twist in this tale that is totally unexpected, leaving the reader in shock and reaching for the next instalment. Even though the author gives enough background to DCI Ryan so that I didn't feel like I was missing parts, he is a character that just demands more attention and makes you want to know more about him and how he thinks. When another body is found in similar circumstances, it is clear that a serial killer is on the loose in Newcastle.

For fans of the series, this novel takes on a new direction from those gone before and I was so excited to be part of a new hunt that DCI Ryan had in his very capable hands. There may have been the same instances in the earlier books, but perhaps the stories held my attention enough that I didn’t notice. Notorious serial killer The Hacker has escaped prison and kidnapped one of his best detectives from her own home. I have loved the entire DCI Ryan series but really feel that talented author LJ Ross has upped her game with Angel, for me this is her best work by far, and considering the other books are brilliant, that says a lot. Loved the story and the mysteriousness to this one, I thought I caught onto the killer too but not quite, I was close though!The first book introduces you to the main characters, their flaws and strengths, as well as the Northumbrian landscape.
