Labai geri pagrindiniai veikėjai (detektyvai) ir smagu, kad knyga neperkrauta jų asmeninio gyvenimo detalėm. That name means nothing until Tom, Becky, Rob and Jumbo meticulously peel back the layers of her life to discover who she is and who would want her dead.

Although this is the 9th book in the Tom Douglas series it would hold it’s own as a stand-alone due to Rachel’s clever writing and back history. Rachel now lives in Alderney - a beautiful island off the coast of France - where she devotes her time to her love of writing fiction. As almost supporting characters, I really do like Becky and Tom as the key investigators in the series. Again I do not want to reveal too much but the theme of human manipulation is so relevant with everything that is going on at the moment.

Listen in as she takes six different people on a career change journey to help them figure out what work they would really love to do and create a plan of how to make that career change happen. This became her debut novel Only The Innocent, which she went on to publish via Kindle Direct Publishing, topping their chart for 4 weeks. The reader is taken on a twisting and turning road to what is a superb and satisfying conclusion to the entire story. The setup was fairly clever, hence 4 stars, but I didn't find it satisfying because I didn't care much for the characters. Tom pushes the rules slightly, despite the wrath of the boss, Philippa (love the way she rants to Tom and Tom still ignores it! The murder plot was all a bit wild and far fetched as to why they would’ve set Martha up / killed Genevieve in the first place. This is one of my favourite crime series and when Rachel asked if I would like to review Close Your Eyes, there was absolutely no hesitation.

The people of Japan believe that everyone has an ikigai - a reason for being; the thing that gets you out of bed each morning. His company, XO-Tech have a small workforce and when the investigation team visit the offices, it becomes clear that there's one person who doesn't want to be involved in any questioning. Once again Rachel Abbott has created an original story with a cast of characters who are either fascinating or downright despicable. This wasn't the usual murder mystery story, it has an unsettling background theme that gives you a tale of how easy it is to get pulled into a cult environment and the methods they use to trap people. She had had a very strange childhood, distanced from her parents although still living under the same roof. I loved the different strands in this book; it made it such a gripping read as I wanted to know what was really going on here. Martha’s story is told in the first person and has flashbacks to different events and timelines in her life. Rachel Abbott has crafted a tightly designed plot that draws the reader into the characters and manages to balance the focus between Martha and Tom’s likable, interesting team. Character development is really one of the key elements I love about the books as whole - the way in which the author really makes you care about what happens to everyone in the story, even if it is only seeing an antagonist getting their just desserts.
