Dear readers. If you survive the long read until this point, I want to sincerely thank you for your time to read my wall of text.

Amane has decided to put further questions down as it’s apparent that Mahiru is putting guard on him and wanting to be left alone. He initially wanted to leave her as she wish but he just stood there instead. A moment later, he decided to put the umbrella near Mahiru and give it to her. Yes, it uses every cliche and trope listed in the How to Write a Romance handbook. If you have seen the rom-coms noted above, then you can predict every paragraph in these light novels. If you make an outline of Horimiya, you can just change the names and you will have The Angel Next Door. So why would I recommend this light novel series? The main character himself, Amane, is relatively nondescript, the gloomy and unsociable type that the reader might be able to see themselves in to some degree. His uninteresting personality becomes supplemented by less… pleasant traits once his relationship with Mahiru begins to deepen, however. He seems to be afflicted with a mixture of possessiveness towards being the only person who knows the 'real' side of Mahiru as well as sexist tropes that seem to have persisted in Japanese fiction for decades. For instance, being unable to grasp the fact that girls can, in fact, enter boys' rooms without the boy being consumed with a monstrous desire to sexually assault them. Or unironically telling Mahiru not to show too much skin or it'll ignite the lusts of the males in her vicinity. The worst part is that these warnings are justified, at least within the setting itself, by every single male character that doesn't isn't particularly relevant being uncontrollably horny zombies. The gaggle of boys in Mahiru's school (beyond the few male friends Amane has) are apparently unable to speak to or about her without either being possessed by reverence, lust, or explosive jealousy towards any sort of interaction between Mahiru and Amane. Of course, the presence of these boys only elevates Amane's own value, transforming him into a gentleman concerned about Mahiru's well-being when quite frankly he would come across as just creepy. Meet Fujimiya Amane, our male protagonist. He’s a normal high-school student, standard look, gloomy, self-admitted hopeless slob, no girlfriend, yada yada yada. (Harmless spoiler: He is quite far from that cookie-cutter character description). He’s living a regular high-school student life with little to no friend. A seemingly gloomy and sad person at first, he is yes.The deepest and most thorough description of Mahiru's history, who she is as a person, and how she fits into the relationship with Amane, comes from the LN Volume 5.5, Chapter 6 - "Childhood Anxieties, and Reassurance in the Present". Trigger warning, it goes through the darkest parts of her childhood trauma, which shaped her into the person she is today, and it gets very painful before she falls asleep on the couch crying over it, and awakes in the arms of the love of her life. It is a hard read, but intensely beautiful, and this very real and honest treatment of their troubled lives, while showing a truly satisfying and tenderly adorable happy turn of events for it, is absolutely one of the reasons I love the series. This is a phenomenally true to life portrayal of the kind of PTSD a person can end up with, when having been the victim of an abusive childhood, and as much as it is painful to see someone going through pain I have felt myself in my real life, it makes me all the more happy for her, that she HAS found someone who will love her completely and truly. And Amane's response to all of this is absolutely perfect. It is quite the highlight of an already great series. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is basically the antithesis of what I love in the romance genre, and, if you can't guess already, I'm a fan. Mateo, Alex (December 6, 2022). The fmc starts out better, but later on she did start to regress. All she does is pouting. Kinda understandable at some point, she seems like she wants the D, but he is a monk, so that won't happen.

Aina The End Releases New Single 'Diana,' Studio Live Performance Video Featuring Anime Theme Songs Also Released Now in their second year of high school, Amane and Mahiru are placed into the same class. Despite Mahiru’s efforts to bring them closer together at school, Amane is reluctant to bridge the gap because of his shyness towards everyone’s “angel.” As he watches Mahiru’s friendliness erode the barriers between her and her classmates, old wounds he once thought were healing begin to resurface... The Novel continues in a straight pattern, where by time the Protagonists begin to know each other more and more and get close to each other. There’s no such thing like losses or heartbreaking, which makes this book perfect for people like me, who prefer cute and wholesome books.

Even though we are often talking about two school-aged children, the series doesn't take much time to show them off at school at all. At best, two episodes show them at school, but this doesn't play into the plot much at all. Instead, the entire premise of the series follows a pattern that can wear thin on some people - Mahiru comes over to Amane's apartment, she makes dinner, they talk, then the day ends. It's repetitive for sure, and I'm sure the author was aware of this. Still, each appearance gets mixed up a little each time enough. A new situation is brought up each time as a different topic of discussion, and the cute relationship that forms between our main couple gets better and better. The art is pretty good, to say the least, but there are some part and angles where the character looks weird I can’t help but laugh. At some part the food that the heroine cook is also weird and impressively very undetailed. There are also some part of an angle where some part of the character art looks super weird and looks casually deformed. I guess that’s the ups and down having the prince and princesses tropes, but not only that, some character also looks weird at some angles. But despite the flaws, its still pretty solid for a casual romance. You've read a story like this, and it's been done better. Guy secretly likes the girl and she starts to warm up to him. If you've never read anything like that before you might like this, but it's been done to death and much better than done here. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten 9 Special edition with Drama-CD] (in Japanese). SB Creative. 26 November 2023 . Retrieved November 26, 2023.I somewhat misunderstood this novel’s title and synopsis and threw an unfair judgement even before reading it, then by all means, keep reading. A cup of tea or beverage of your choice might be needed as I don’t know how long this review will be (I do love writing, so I can write a lot). With that said, if you came here to look for a sweet romance story where great chemistry between characters and sweet and wholesome moments, you're in the right place. This story does nothing new, just the same troupe you'd probably seen in other light novels and manga. But it does that troupe exceptionally well, or at least better than most. A collection of newly written side stories depicting the past and present of two people who are attracted to each other and the times that surround them.
