I so wanted to enjoy this, and I will say that I did enjoy it in the beginning and then things went downhill for me. I couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't - It was almost as if the protagonist had climbed inside my mind and began turning somersaults. The quirkiness of Claire’s viewpoint, seeing life through scripts, added such a unique depth to the plot; whilst also creating an edge that built in a lightness to this rather dark and twisted plot. I have so much empathy it causes me physical pain, which is the same for many other people with BPD.

Once the twists in the book begin to happen my internal debate meter shot off the chart and it wasn’t as if you are thrown a whole pile of suspects but the psychological side showed in playing mind games with the reader.Heavner isn’t exactly mollified when Tempe, aided by retired police detective Skinny Slidell and a host of experts, puts a name to the dead man. She is hired to entrap cheating husbands…though she prefers to think of it as “ behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances”. Her background casts a unique perspective on how the author has taken these topics and melded them into a fresh, fast paced psychological thriller.

I won’t give anything away for those who want to read this one, but the last section was definitely a little unbelievable for me and that did drop my rating slightly. And, unlike so often when a character undergoes a massive change throughout the course of the novel, her evolution was largely believable. This is an excellent read and will be a bookclub treasure as there are a lot of breathless discussions to have. Claire certainly seems to think so and you come to trust her judgement, well,other than when you wonder if she's telling the truth or just acting.
