Description

I. on Aberdeen’s police force, Steel’s team is made up of the “no-hopers,” the most worthless or inexperienced members of the homicide department, and Logan will do anything to prove he doesn’t belong there. And as if that wasn’t enough to worry about, there’s a PC lying in Accident and Emergency with a bullet in him, and it’s all Logan’s fault. Requires ePub-compatible e-book reader with ADEPT DRM (eg Sony Reader hardware or Adobe Digital Editions software), and internet connection to purchase --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. DI Steel is not your typical DI and works in very different ways to Logan and his previous boss DI Insch. As a result he is told that he must work under DI Steel who runs the "screw up squad" a team made up of the officers that have messed up and are not exactly the cream of the crop.

He absolutely does not want to be part of Steel’s squad, so he tries his darndest to solve his assigned case to get himself reassigned to DI Insch, the candy-holic whom we also met in Granite City. But there was always the writing (well, that's not true, the writing only started two chapters above this one). The author has created a police force obsessed with the objectification of women whether victims or colleagues .I decided to start with his Logan McRae detective series but couldn’t get the first book on my Libby app so started with book number two. Under pressure from a local politician, Steel sends Logan and other officers on all-night excursions into Aberdeen’s red-light district in hope of catching the killer. I will most definitely be continuing this series and highly recommend it to serious mystery/crime fans. However, I found the grittiness and dark humour well-executed and the complicated intertwining plot-lines stimulating.

Paperback Publisher: HarperCollins, 2020 The Number One bestselling detective series from the award-winning Stuart MacBride continues in this second crime thriller. It starts with Rosie Williams, a prostitute, stripped naked and beaten to death down by the docks -- the heart of Aberdeen's red light district. Stuart’s other works include Halfhead, a near-future thriller, Sawbones, a novella aimed at adult emergent readers, and several short stories.I usually don't mind the occasional swear word, especially in police procedurals, but hardly a sentence is uttered without someone swearing or cursing. There were so many sub-plots, interwoven cases and excellent twists, it honestly felt half its length. Stuart's other works include Halfhead, a near-future thriller, Sawbones, a novella aimed at adult emergent readers, and several short stories.

There's no care shown towards victims, apparent friends, or that poor guy who got shot on your raid - the one whose name you've not bothered to learn.

There is reference to Cold Granite (previous book) which helps with the build of scene setting, personal characteristics and overall picture. He was rather slow with the body in the red suitcase but as he was solving all the other inter-mingling crimes I allowed his that one and he got there in the end.

Steel, whose name is apropos, is a chain-smoking, no-nonsense tough broad who begins her morning team meetings by leading with a cheer: “We are not at home to Mr. An arsonist indiscriminately (or so it seems) setting fires, screwing doors shut, and killing the innocent families inside. It starts with Rosie Williams, a prostitute, stripped naked and beaten to death down by the docks - the heart of Aberdeen's red light district. in Stuart MacBride’s hands, what’s going on in this rainy Scottish city is bound to be much more complicated than it appears. R D Wingfield Praise for Cold Granite: 'COLD GRANITE is a powerful reminder that the best contemporary crime fiction is coming out of Scotland. I love the chain smoking inspector who heads the 'f*** up squad' and desperately wanted to see Logan out of there. More colorful and varied expressions of frustration would have been appreciated, but no, bloody this and bloody that.
