I would never know some of it was recorded on a rooftop on what looks like a bleak and windy day by a group who hadn't played as a band in public in too long and out in the elements no less. You know, I totally get why people don’t like “The Long and Winding Road”, I’ll admit I can be a sucker for schmaltz sometimes. Tracks: 1-two Of Us 2-dig A Pony 3-across The Universe 4-i Me Mine 5-dig It 6-let It Be 7-maggie Mae 8-i Ve Got A Feeling 9-one After 909 10-the Long And Winding Road 11-for You.

The de-Spectorized version is kind of lame anyway, even the far superior de-Spectorized version on Anthology 3 bores me. Some other tracks are certainly different performances, and Don't Let Me Down replaces Maggie Mae and Dig It. In my mind I can see whoever did the casting for 1977’s The Deep going “now who can we get to play the incompetent and repellent town drunk no one ever wants to take on diving expeditions?I am quite amazed at how for the first time in thirty odd years I can listen to these songs and hear how great they really are. The 7” “Fly On The Wall” compilation of musical snippets and conversations is like the extremely condensed audio version of the recent documentary.

I’m just revisiting the “Naked” vinyl after watching the amazing 3 part documentary and I now look at this album in a whole new way whether it’s the original Phil Spector mix, Giles Martin remix or Paul’s “naked” version. it may be intriguing to hear a version of 'Across the Universe' featuring only Lennon and some echo effects, but the new mix merely emphasises the song's droning vapidity.Morricone channelled his muse and wrote that music while watching film of a guy running around a graveyard. Sad to see it being sidelined somewhat by the 50th release and with the vinyl going OOP, it looks like becoming an increasingly expensive item on LP. There is consistent chatter about this LP online and there is definite interest from fans and collectors in a reissue. I Me Mine" – a remixed, slightly different recreation of Spector's edit (which had increased the track's length by copy/pasting the second chorus at the end) of the track recorded on 3 January 1970; orchestra removed, guitar overdubs and organ parts mixed in and out to make the repeated verse sound different. For You Blue" – a remix of the 25 January 1969 take used on the album, including Harrison's re-recorded lead vocal from 8 January 1970 and reinstating his rhythm guitar; framing dialogue removed.

Plus it includes one of the best tracks from that session “Don’t Let Me Down” which was omitted from the original release, subsequent reissues and new remix. And you have a point about Lennon’s vocal on “Across the Universe”, it does stand out a lot more, I just miss the other instruments.
