Description

He was more concerned than many other ley hunters with finding objective evidence for the idea that unusual forms of energy could be measured at places where prehistoric communities had erected structures. He was an intensely rational person with an active intellect, and I think he would be a bit disappointed with some of the fringe aspects of ley lines today. A place with uncanny links to tales of the undead and general weird stuff from the middle ages to Shaun of the Dead.

Some interesting info in the book that is worth knowing, but the first few pages had some typos on them and the writing layout was odd. The bubble was burst, a little, in the late 1980s when scholars Tom Williamson and Liz Bellamy worked out that the density of archaeological sites in the British landscape is so great that a line drawn through virtually anywhere would "clip" any number of significant places. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. Paul’s Cathedral – a ley line can be drawn that connects to another nearby sacred mound, the Tower of London.Although often hostile to archaeologists, some ley hunters attempted to ascertain scientific evidence for their belief in earth energies at prehistoric sites, evidence they could not obtain. If the conical mound was built by Brutus, as is alleged, then its deliberate alignment to its two nearby sacred sites, and the subsequent triple alignment to the winter solstice Sun, is evidence that homage was paid by the Trojan warrior to the overarching religious principle of the land, and that the sacred foundations of the area were to be continued. Translating the term lung mei as "dragon paths", he reinterpreted tales from English mythology and folklore in which heroes killed dragons so that the dragon-slayers became the villains. He argued that straight lines could be drawn between various historic structures and that these represented trade routes created by ancient British societies. He viewed archaeologists as antagonists, seeing them as the personification of the modern materialism he was railing against.

Nevertheless, Simon Pope offers a practical and simple way of divining London's paths of energy so you can go with the flow. It is quite clear from Stonehenge and other ancient works that a lot of careful siting went on in the past. Interestingly, he consecrated the site on the Summer Solstice, once again continuing the tradition of venerating the hill of Light – a process he repeated at other sacred mounds during his campaign through England. BBC History only mention a single standing stone "which may have been used as a cross by St Augustine".Other statistical significance tests have shown that supposed ley-line alignments are no more significant than random occurrences and/or have been generated by selection effects. I was motivated by the controversy of alignments across the Hawksmoor churches and this book doesn't add anything other that the authors own obsession with drawing wide marks on small scale maps and producing connections, the same principle can apply to proving ancient connections between telephone boxes, curry houses and more!
