You will find yourself referring to The Almanac all year long, revisiting it again and again, and looking forward to the next edition as the year draws to a close. I want my kids to experience the same pride when, hopefully a long time from now, they examine the life I lived. The recipes were especially welcome and although not one for astrology, I found the history of the zodiac signs and greek mythology to be fascinating. For younger bookworms – and nostalgic older ones too – there’s the Slightly Foxed Cubs series, in which we’ve reissued a number of classic nature and historical novels.

The paper used inside is quite rough and ready (probably recycled, I haven't checked, sorry) so don't expect pristine white pages. While writing this intro, I reflected on the passing year through the lens of the essays I’ve written. Rereading my essays, I relive the year again; they are tiny bookmarks of my life, which makes the almanacs bookends of the year.Written and illustrated by astronomical experts, Storm Dunlop and Wil Tirion, and approved by the astronomers of the Royal Observatory Greenwich. As I am reliving 2023 through my essays, I find that four of them had lasting impacts on me, which I want to highlight here.
