Description

The illustrations are beautiful, very soft and inviting, allowing you to concentrate on the facts whilst providing good context for the information. This book has been put together in a fantastic way and the text complements the illustrations perfectly. Adam Allsuch Boardman is an illustrator based in Leeds, who recently completed his BA Illustration degree at Leeds College of Art. Occasionally I felt it made light of or was critical of certain cultures and beliefs, while also pushing a particular opinion/agenda, which made me question some of the 'facts' I was being presented.

Those who already know a good bit may find some interesting information on where certain ghosts originated from and more! Since then, Adam has worked for a variety of clients such as Apple, The Economist, Deloitte and Monocle. It did touch upon a lot of different subjects such as haunted locations, ghost legends and the media etc… but again it was too brief and was mostly a couple of sentences for each explanation.

This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. Thank you so much to the publishers for providing me with an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest review. I think this one appealed to me a little bit more, guess I’m just more of a ghost fan than aliens, but I feel that each of these works, with their useful glossaries and resources, would be quite appropriate for teens and preteens who are interested in outré subjects. His gorgeous graphic illustrations of which there are many, make his guide to the afterlife fun like no other. I’ve shared a couple of pages in the slides to illustrate that; I found a lot of the historical parts about how different cultures approach the concept of ghosts really interesting, but as a noted pop culture fiend, I particularly enjoyed all the mentions of ghost related books and films a lot too!

Some of the information contained in the book I was aware of but some was very new to me so although this was a fun read I would also say it was an educational read too. this book is a real gem for a young ghost hunter in your life (and haven't we all gone through that phase? When it says it's a history book, it only ever briefly touches on each moment and each haunting, never sticking around long enough that you get any real depth. It reads a lot younger than I was expecting (especially as it is classed as Nonfiction (Adult) on Netgalley. The style of this book is very much a mix of historical and factual information on the paranormal (and those who took advantage of people’s gullibility around it), and all the fun pop culture stuff!A bump in the night, the crack of floorboards and the uneasy coldness of a room…Signs we might attribute to a ghostly presence.
