Se ripenso all’inizio con Blake, noi due e basta, mi sembra troppa responsabilità, per una donna sola. I've always been fascinated by these kind of stories, however, Black Widows fell a little flat for me.

Brookmyre, always excellent at building beguiling narrative puzzles, darts nimbly here among the police, Parlabane, and Diana, making Black Widow .Her perilous mission will take her from the restive suburbs of Paris to the island of Santorini and the brutal world of the Islamic State’s new caliphate, and eventually to Washington, D. Even if she never visited Utah or spoke with any members of the LDS church, or any polygamous sect, she could have done a better job. The creator of high-octane, deliciously brash thrillers usually featuring no-nonsense investigative journalist Jack Parlabane, Brookmyre is also an accomplished satirist, at home skewering political and institutional authority.

I've watched Sister Wives for years, Big Love was a big hit for me, and Target's new spring clothing line features a whole selection of FLDS Warren Jeffs-like prairie dresses, so I thought it was all a sign of a 5-star read. There is substance beyond the plot twist here, and readers will find themselves fully immersed in the mindsets, backstories, and lives of this book's cast of compelling characters. I think of how it once stung, but my skin has grown thicker over time, and I have worse things to endure now than mere words. Lots of twists, cleverly dropped at the end of each chapter to keep the reader engaged, and lots of grim secrets to discover. He has written many other number one bestsellers including collaborations with President Bill Clinton and Dolly Parton, stand-alone thrillers and non-fiction.Not only did it deal with the much-misunderstood Church of the Latter-Day Saints (LDS), along with a more extreme form of that religion as well (polygamists), but it also delved into a third level – that of a remote cult-like organization.

During our conversation, I was particularly intrigued by Chris’ description of his thriller BLACK WIDOW; I finally had the chance to read it, and I was blown away by the sophistication, precision, and complexity of this book. But it is also more than that, moving beyond genre conventions to provide a feminist exploration of gender inequalities in the workplace and a humorous parody of its own narrative expectation. I loved each chapter being from a different character, the three wives were SO different, and I loved them all for different reasons. Full of engaging twists, Brookmyre’s latest thriller featuring unconventional journalist Jack Parlabane is as compelling as it is clever.
