Contains a replayed sample from "Ooh La La La" (McGrier/Marie), McNella Music/Midnight Magnet Music. The Fugees sold over twenty-two million records worldwide and are one of the biggest-selling hip hop groups of all time. gave birth to the Conscious movement of hip-hop which has become so important/prevalent in the last 20 years. Following the disappointing performance of their debut record, the head of the Fugees label, Ruffhouse Records decided to give the band another chance. Rating: A, 3 Stars (out of 5) - "The Fugees are a Neapolitan treat, sweet in three layers: rhyme, sample, and groove.

U2’s Bono dubbed them “the hip hop Beatles” In 2012, BET placed the group on its list of ‘Hip Hop’s Greatest Trios’. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. It not only catapulted the Fugees into stardom, but also launched the productive solo careers of Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill, the latter of whom already ranks as one of the top female MCs of all time based on her work here. Coincidentally, Hill would meet and subsequently start dating Marley’s son, Rohan a few months after the release of this album. Even when they're not relying on easily recognisable tunes, their original material is powered by a raft of indelible hooks, especially the great "Fu-Gee-La". the hip-hop threesome cops a grim veneer but escapes gangsta cliches by playing around with the formulas.

First single, ‘Fu-Gee-La’ is based on Teena Marie’s ‘Ooo La La La’ and ‘(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right’ by Ramsey Lewis, the two songs reinterpreted and inconspicuously and masterfully brought together. Some of these albums were poppy, some were gangsta, and some were given the slightly condescending label of "socially conscious. The album's guest raps are from Outsidaz members Rah Digga, Young Zee and Pacewon, as well as Omega, John Forté, and Diamond D. Zealots,’ one of my favourite tracks on the record makes great use of The Flamingoes’ ‘I Only Have Eyes For You.The instrumentation is as it should be for rock fans, a fairly obvious Bob Marley cover for stoners and college kids, and enough soulful vocals from figurehead Lauryn Hill to middle-aged listeners still on the fence about hip-hop. The album features a wide range of samples and instrumentation, with many aspects of alternative hip hop that would come to dominate the hip hop music scene in the mid-late 1990s. The Score's production was handled mostly by the Fugees themselves and Jerry Duplessis, with additional production from Salaam Remi, John Forté, Diamond D, and Shawn King.
