I just wish Autumn had been a better main character (I feel like I'm being a little judgmental on her honestly, but oh well. Despite having a great set of friends and boyfriend in Jamie, Autumn’s regret over the loss of her friendship with Finn is clearly apparent. Regarding the ENDING ending, I had also kinda guessed that one as well after one of the scenes because of course it was going to happen. It’s a story which deals with issues of friendship, first loves and family in the most raw and intense way I have come across in a long time. The novel tells the story of Autumn and Finny as they navigate the complicated waters of high school and intimate relationships.

But, I just couldn’t expect my awesome, handsome, wonderful boyfriend (husband) to support me while I try to live my dream or to wait to get married until I have explored some of life’s other options. The book was a little slow in the beginning to the point where I was growing bored, but luckily it picked up. There were other plot points I'd predicted because it was kind of obvious because a lot of contemporaries that have drama have it. But what may surprise you is that part of you goes down this rabbit hole, welling up newfound regret, breathing in anger at the fucked-up world that honestly doesn't get better as you get older. Some readers may have got frustrated with Autumn’s decisions, but if I were in her shoes I don’t think I would have done it any other way.

I see Sylvie sitting sideways out of the back of the policeman's car, her feet drumming on the wet pavement as she talks. I liked how despite their differences Finn was the one who could constantly ground Autumn, the one she could turn to when she needed the most. As selfish as it could've been the ending of the book left me with hope of a life save, a life continued and a second chance for all to find some piece of happiness. The main character likes reading and writing, and a few books and plays are mentioned, including The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, Charlotte's Web, Domby and Son by Charles Dickens, Romeo and Juliet, and Wuthering Heights. While the memories they shared may have been the same they were different in how each of them perceived those memories to be. Using tender prose that makes it hard not to care about the main characters, this title chronicles four years of high school and the confusing post-graduation period.

The characters were okay, Finn was my favourite out of them all but I found I didnt really connect with the characters like I do in other books. They drift apart and find new friends, but their friendship keeps asserting itself at parties, shared holiday gatherings and random encounters. At the end of senior year, Autumn's boyfriend breaks up with her, and Finny's girlfriend travels to Europe. Autumn does not get her license, but she benefits from Jamie receiving his as well as Finny, who not only gets his license but an expensive sports car from his father. When she isn't at home agonizing over her own novels, Laura works at the public library, where the patrons give her plenty of inspiration for her writing.
