Meanwhile, Tee-Hee “slowly unhinged the little finger of Bond’s left hand, immovably bound to the arm of his chair. There are 14 of the original Bond stories that Ian Fleming wrote before his death, and I plan to read all of them. What is now viewed from a historical context, Ian Fleming lived in a time of great fear and paranoia as the Cold War raged on. Quarrel was Fleming's ideal concept of a black person, and the character was based on his genuine liking for Jamaicans, whom he saw as "full of goodwill and cheerfulness and humour". Fleming first met him in August 1954 and presented an inscribed American first edition of Casino Royale (this copy previously sold through our offices).

I don’t remember this being mentioned in Casino Royale, so this could be the first mention of the cover name for Bond’s employers. The adaptation was written by Henry Gammidge and illustrated by John McLusky, whose drawings of Bond had a resemblance to Sean Connery, the actor who portrayed Bond in Dr.Born in London in 1908, Ian Fleming worked as a banker and journalist before serving in the British Naval Intelligence during World War II. Also on P18 it says that there were apparently only 250 million black people on the planet and that was a third of the white population. Very slight edge wear and chipping to the jacket, as well as a bit of toning and rubbing to the rear panel. I have to say I really enjoyed reading about Bond and Felix Leiter enjoying the nightlife in Harlem.

And it is in the spirit of Mao that we should be able to take the words of the dead (especially dead white men) and twist them to our own specific political agenda whatever that may be at any particular moment. Eco considers that this is "not just an example of macabre sarcasm; it is an emphasis on the essential by the inessential, typical of the école du regard. Bond is sent to New York to help the CIA investigate the sudden appearance of gold entering the market – gold that comes from many different countries, but all from a similar period. To me the book seemed that it was fin read and nothing seemed to stick in my head about it – I probably read it about 1980, society, culture has changed a lot since then, even more so since the book being published in 1954 and reading it now was a metaphorical kick to the gut.A very clean example with the dust wrapper's colouring fresh and bright, with a little soiling to the rear panel. A near fine handsome copy of this Fleming title in scarce collectible condition with a stunning jacket! As the lights get dimmer and the drums get louder, the floor underneath Table Z begins to descend thanks to a hydraulic lift, taking them with it. The book comes with a stunning, vibrant, near fine, original first edition dust jacket in the second state.

Gilbert A2a Black cloth covered boards with some bowing, slight discoloring to gilt on lower half of Jonathan Cape logo on spine; faint pink stain to part of bottom and side edge; toning and some rubbing around edges, in colorful dust jacket with a coin-sized stain to the inside of the back flap. No inscriptions, contents clean, edges slightly toned, gilt still bright (often tarnished), jacket lightly worn with one tear and associated crease to upper. HARDBACK - A very good or better book that would be a fine example, save for some foxing to the page blocks, also with light foxing to the front end-paper. But the total impression was awe-inspiring, even terrifying, and Bond could imagine that so ghastly a misfit must have been bent since childhood on revenge against fate and against the world that hated because it feared him. Bond then meets with his two associates for the case, Captain Dexter and Felix Leiter (who had worked with Bond in the previous novel).Bond actually has several anti-American jibes, so the casual, or not so casual, racism from Fleming extends to America too! Big captures him and throws him in with Solitaire, both of them to be keel-hauled over a reef on the boat's way out, so that sharks eat them. The dust jacket has strong vibrant colors with No rips, No chips, No edgewear, No tears, No stains, No fading and No foxing. First off - any critics who can't see past the dated racial terminology in this book are missing an (admittedly cumbersome) attempt at a progressive breakthrough. Live and Let Die' is the second James Bond novel by Ian Fleming, set in London, the United States, and Jamaica.
