Round brush: The design and size are nearly identical between the old attachment and the new one, but since I've used my old attachment so much over the last three-plus years, the bristles are worse for the wear. While the attachments felt hot at times during switching, it wasn’t anywhere near hot enough to scald. Three editors, all with different hair types — one with curly, fine hair, another with 4b curls who wears extensions and one with wavy-to-curly, thick, dry hair — all found the tool to be excellent at curling and smoothing our hair alike. Plus, it comes with a selection of tools to suit different hair types and to provide a range of style options.

While some heat is present as you dry your hair, it’s nowhere as much as using ceramic hair tools, so it’s a better method for styling in terms of hair-health. My only issue with the process was switching heads to alternate the curls, which was admittedly tedious. If you’re someone who styles their hair regularly — whether that’s blowing out, straightening or curling your hair, or a healthy dose of all three — you’ll be impressed too. D., to test out the new Dyson Airwrap both at home and in the GH Beauty Lab — and what we found might surprise you. A few days later, we tried out the AirWrap barrels, with the aim of creating bouncy curls, and we found the process far easier than using the brushes – mainly due to the fact that all the work is done for you by the Coanda effect.

But, for someone like me who likes to regularly get smooth, sleek blowouts on naturally curly, thick hair, it really did change the game. And not every attachment is a fit for everyone: I really only ever use the smoothing attachment, the curling barrels, the round brush and the firm smoothing brush. Olivia was previously TechRadar's Senior Editor - Home Entertainment, covering everything from headphones to TVs. While Dyson has released two instructional videos on using the AirWrap Styler on curly hair, it’s worth noting that the company hasn’t demonstrated the tool on tightly coiled Type 4C hair, leaving many potential users to guess as to whether it will work.

Even though we were impressed with the results, we felt that the AirWrap is better suited to longer hairstyles, particularly when it comes to the curling barrels – if you have hair shorter than shoulder-length, you may find it difficult to encourage your hair to wrap around the barrels. This is not a problem if you’re attempting a quick style, but be prepared if you’re curling every last strand. The thing is: I like to wear it straight, and in a pre-Airwrap world, that meant spending lots of time and money at the salon multiple times a month.

Direction-changing Airwrap barrels: The old Airwrap came with four barrels total (two barrels in each size; one for clockwise curls, one for counterclockwise curls). The technique definitely takes some getting used to and you will need to learn how to get the best results. Using traditional curling tongs can be time-consuming and damaging to your hair, but the Dyson AirWrap makes curling your hair a breeze (literally), and left the hair looking far healthier than when we has used extremely hot ceramic stylers in the past. But, if you want bouncy curls on a daily basis, and you’re wary of heat damage, the Dyson Airwrap is the best bet.
