A particular highlight was DS Bryant's dissection of solving a crime into the different courses of a meal and the witty repartee between Kim and droll pathologist, Doctor Keats. With murders and crime and suspects, it truly was one hell of a ride that has only left me wanting to read Angela's next book in the series ASAP! This hit all the feels for me with subject matter close to my heart, as our family and extended family are adopted and came from situations very similar to those described in Silent Scream. stars out of 5 plus a glass of wine (to steady my nerves, after reading such a heart-pounding crime thriller).

Angela lives in the heart of the Black Country with her partner, bouncy Labrador and potty mouthed parrot. There is lots of action, we open in 2004 with five adults around a grave, burying an innocent, binding them all together with a horrific secret.Kim's past also becomes the force behind her unstoppable need to figure out exactly what happened all those years ago. She seems coming out of a recipe: 1 cup of rhetoric, mixing it with 1 cup of defiance, some pseudo-humor, a teaspoon of immaturity… and there you go!

We are gradually introduced to a large cast of characters, all fleshed out to some extent making it easy to keep them straight. The fast pace and riveting subject matter consumes the reader and provides an intense reading experience. Combining a gripping plot with a lightening fast pace, a wonderful sense of place and some sparky characters who stay with readers, this is nigh on perfection and the added empathy of Angela Marsons is the icing on the cake! I've read every book by this author and I always end by saying it's my new favourite and this one is no exception. I am not looking forward to the graphic child abuse scenes, but I agree, sometimes you have to read it to understand the character and their motivation. You also have Dawson, a bit of a tart by all accounts, easily distracted but ultimately good at what he does when focused, and Stacey with the thick Black Country accent which I couldn’t help but smirk at. In un libro si deve trovare il modo di condurre il lettore a capire quello che lo scrittore ha in mente. Really, loving Kim's character this much meant that I truly cared about where Angela took the story and what would happen to Kim. El equipo de investigación, capitaneado por la detective Kim Stone no tarda en averiguar qué todos tienen algo en común, trabajaron en un centro de menores. Her zeal in this respect is somewhat uncontrolled which pretty much keeps her in the doghouse with her superiors.

I also like that there is a balance between the crime investigation process and the character portrayal. A headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country. As well as the activity surrounding the current murders of those connected by their former employment at the children's home, the discoveries of human remains long buried on the site alerts Kim that this could be the work of two separate and very depraved killers.

Or perhaps, maybe it is just coincidence that my book choices have contained these types of characters. Silent Scream then cuts to the present day and a series of macabre killings, beginning with highly respected headmistress, Teresa Wyatt. The thriller was already above average from the start, with jaw dropping twists, and a furiously frustrating mystery that I simply could not puzzle out.
