And the ending was so incredible and tension-filled, which meant that all the reveals and everything that went down had me on the edge of my seat. The themes do swing to the darker side of middle grade, with some intense scenes, but I cannot wait to see where this goes. And in all honesty, my demands from a good book are exactly the same as what they were when I was a kid. Every time I thought I knew where the plot was heading, it swiftly changed direction and I loved this. I love what happens with all the creepy things in the forest, especially with the trees, and the build up of tension was just brilliant.

There is so much to love: a protagonist who is strong and determined, side characters who are along for the ride are also awesome, and a constantly-moving plot. If I hadn’t went out of town for 4 days, plus preparing for it the days leading up to-I would have finished this in 1 day. There was enough intrigue to keep me hooked but not too much that I felt like I was just waiting for everything to wrap up.
