Description

The bonnet lock screws are T27 in size, although I didn't have mine, so I used a T25 bit which worked fine. remove two hex screws at 10 and 2 o'clock - you will have to prise away two stupid plastic flaps on the inside of the grill first though to get at them.

So I took it off again and went back to using the claw and then greased the latch up (especially when the clip is in the locked position - you can get down in the back of it with WD40 and grease). VWBreakers is completely independent and not affiliated with or authorized by the mentioned entities. Ensure that the plastic guide attached to the end of the release cable does not become detached on fitting.Still a bit stiff but should last a few more years - I will be spraying it regulalry from now onwards! Being able to recreate in this way meant I could the clean out the latch as much as I could even when it's in the locked position. I had to drill a series of small holes around the 3rd and final Torx screw located within the black plastic in the front grill. Having said that, if you have removed the first two bolts and loosen the third, the catch body will slightly lift out of its location slightly (rotating around the third bolt) If you know where to go on the catch body, you might be able to get a screwdriver (or some bent bit of metal) in to manually pull the release lever down and release the fish-hook catch. The unit appears to be sealed together so it can't be dismantled, the only thing you can do is clean out the crap and regrease.

Refitting is a complete reversal of the removal procedure, before refitting the grill to the car, it is best to make sure the lock opens.

Note: Be careful not to drill in too far as you may cause damage or rupture any other mechanical parts / radiator etc. If the bonnet opens and closes fine, then your OK, just reconnect the alarm wire then simply put the screws back in. It may be that one of the bolts is hidden and you will need to drill a neat and tidy hole through the plastic to get at it. The cable close to where it meets the latch is fixed inside a rigid plastic part, I suspect this may be where I'm going wrong - should this be attached to the catch or to the car in some way? This is in the shape of a "V" shaped scoop looking thing with a "wing" of plastic each side - you'll understand what i mean when you get the badge off.
