Description

In this book, the interplay with people and their environment creates a narrative in nearly every image. After graduating from college, Roger spent a year photographing life in rural North Devon on a commission for the Beaford Arts Centre; these images attest to a keenly ironic English sensibility, and also serve as a record of a time and place of vanished post-war Britain. Deakins has been admitted to both the British Society of Cinematographers and to the American Society of Cinematographers. This is the book of quiet moments by someone who has the ability to capture scenes that make my heart rush. Considered a master behind the lens, Deakins has made an impact on the industry as he presents timeless works of art through his cinematography. I just love wandering which means I also take photographs during my time off when we’re shooting in places like New Mexico or Berlin.Roger Deakins is a master of cinematography for the cinema with two Oscars in his portfolio and 15 nominations. I take a lot of photographs when I’m shooting movies too, but they are usually location or light references,” he adds. Byways is the kind of book I find myself picking up almost absentmindedly when I have some time and want to go exploring. It’s also the kind of book I pick up intentionally, to revel in the images and learn something about photography. I haven’t really worked with directors that shoot millions of takes or multiple coverage of a scene. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. His countless career accolades also include two Independent Spirit Awards, numerous Critic’s Awards, and the Career Achievement Award from the National Board of Review. Byways is the first monograph by the legendary cinematographer, best known for his collaborations with directors such as the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes, and Denis Villeneuve. Byways started as something specific and became more about things I have observed throughout my life.

As part of graphic design, one took photographs as a way of creating a book cover, it wasn’t taking photographs for their own sake. This is one of the main reasons I was particularly drawn to this book, as I was born and raised in Devon, and it's wonderful to see how it is documented through Roger Deakins' eyes. T. the Extra-Terrestrial: The Ultimate Visual History—the definitive account of the motion picture phenomenon and a must-have for fans of the beloved Steven Spielberg classic.THE ART OF OBSERVATION Sir Roger Deakins CBE BSC ASC has published Byways, his first collection of photographs. It was a matter of circumstance—and free time in his demanding schedule—that led to the publishing of Byways, a monograph that compiles his black and white images from as early as 1971. Images that tell a story and include an element of humour also appeal because “it’s not just about lighting and framing. Roger Deakins We’re in an age where we take so many photos on our phones that never see the light of day, but something is missing about going into the darkroom and developing photos or going to get film developed. It may be the purest distillation of Deakins’s vision―stark, plaintive, and reverent of land and light―we ever get.
