Description

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about themselves or those they love with ADHD. We also do not know how she works her recovery programme -- the 12 steps are quite spiritual, but she makes no mention of any spiritual practice -- which suggests her partner may be her 'higher power' in all of this. While I could not care less about the authors their lives and whatever works for them is fine by me, but the way this book portrays ADHD is simply not true.As a British 21 year old male diagnosed with ADHD age 16, this incredibly written book by Rich and Rox took me on an evening of emotional rollercoasters of relatable laugh out loud moments to just as relatable tears of sadness.

I do feel like I misunderstood the message and tone of the book, which as someone with ADHD feels really weird, but maybe it's just not the book for me. This book approaches ADHD in a frank and completely transparent way, showing the absolute worst parts of ADHD that people who live with the condition are often so ashamed to acknowledge, never mind admit to.I devoured this book in a couple of hours and felt my perspective of myself and my adhd shift enormously.

It will also help to educate partners, parents and friends, to help them move from frustration to patience, understanding—and love. The way Richard’s parts of this book reads feels as though he endlessly infantilizes his partner due to her ADHD. If you already know anything about ADHD you are unlikely to learn anything from this lightweight work. Filled with heartbreak and humour in equal measure, DIRTY LAUNDRY is an invaluable resource both for neurodivergents and the people who love them. One thing you have to understand when reading this is that it's not meant to be a scientific journal or a medical textbook.
