Description

JBL are renowned for their audio products and the Quantum 800’s do not disappoint! With a lovely rich wide sound, the 50mm dynamic drivers bring the visuals to life as you begin gaming. Every deep bass tone and high-end note are clear and perfectly formed. It’s a different experience than you get with other headphones, and may take a little while to adjust to. For example, sounds coming from sources in the distance will seem farther away, as they would in real life. Even though you might be used to those sounds feeling closer with other headphones, JBL QuantumSURROUND provides hyper-accurate spatialization that can give you a competitive edge. However, as I mentioned above, the real complicating factor in how the JBL Quantum 800 sounds are the surround sound options. Both the QuantumSURROUND and DTS:X 2.0 settings noticeably alter the audio profile of the headset, and not always in flattering ways. Turning on either setting means two things to varying degrees: mids get less emphasis, and everything else gets boosted, in slightly odd ways. With the DTS setting, it’s a little less noticeable—everything seems louder, for sure, but otherwise sounds normal. JBL QuantumSURROUND technology can be used with any type of multi-channel audio content. For example: Netflix content, Blu-ray, and music mixed in 5.1 or 7.1 surround.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. The steady bass drum in Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” sounds full and weighty, without any distortion even at maximum (and unsafe) volume levels. It doesn’t quite rattle the head with subwoofer levels of bass, but it’s still a powerful thump. The guitar strings and vocals both come through clearly in the mix, even with the prominent bass. The noise cancellation isn’t quite as strong as Bose’s ANC technology, but the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are twice as expensive as the Quantum 800. In this price range, if you want good ANC (and don’t need a boom mic), the Sennheiser HD 450BT is an excellent pair of headphones with audiophile-pleasing sound. Otherwise, you’ll be spending much more for better noise cancellation. Performance Get the game’s most immersive and accurate surround sound. JBL QuantumSURROUND™*, powered by the JBL QuantumENGINE, puts you at the center of an immersive experience, allowing you to up your game and triumph over the competition. Also equipped with DTS headphone:X v2.0. Available exclusively on PC. JBL Quantum 300, 350, 360P/X, 400, 600, 610, 800, 810, 910, 910 P/X, ONE, TWS, TWS Air and Stream are working with the QuantumENGINE.

Is the JBL Quantum 800 good for gaming?

The Quantum 800's are easy to use between different devices, very straight forward. They have great range with the usb adapter. No complaints about audio quality, except when using their Surround Sound settings. I can't tell if it enhances games, but with music quality through the pc it tends to dull the audio. The active noise cancellation is perfect for gaming if you either a) want to be completely immersed and b) do not want to listen to Paul Hollywood chatting in Bake Off on the TV in the living room. I did have another unfortunate moment that my fellow Thumb Culture staff can confirm while playing Phasmophobia. Because I was transfixed on the job in hand and was making my way around the dark house searching for evidence of the ghost. Make sure that your the Quantum Headphones is your Default Device for both Speakers ( Game ) and Earphone ( Communication device )

Also, the human brain uses small head movements to distinguish if sound sources are behind or in front of us. The brain processes the differences between when a sound arrives at the left vs. the right ear to determine where the sound is located. So with JBL QuantumSPHERE 360, you can move your head naturally to pinpoint the exact source of sounds around you.

Why is JBL Quantum 810 better than JBL Quantum 800?

This is a very good mic, though if you want to seriously record or stream you might want to consider getting a dedicated USB microphone instead of relying on a headset. Noise Cancellation

In music, frequency response like this means the sounds of bass guitars or bass drums will come through even louder. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, if you’re a big fan of EDM or even just songs where the rhythm section really drives the momentum. JBL QuantumSURROUND works with every game, but the experience is better when your game outputs in surround sound. If your game outputs only 2-channel audio, using JBL QuantumSURROUND will sound like a pair of studio monitors in front of you. You’ll be able to hear the reflections of the sound in the room, but as with any stereo setup, you won’t have any discrete sound sources behind you. With a full 7.1 mix, you’ll be able to hear and locate sounds behind and above you.

Unbeknown to me, my wife had been talking to me and as I had not responded, decided to put her face to the side of mine. You know in those horror movies when there isn’t something there, and then there is. Yes, I screamed, and it was met with hysterics from both my wife and the TC crew who were on the other end of the voice chat! I certainly needed a few minutes after that!

When powered up, the iconic JBL logos that adorn each of the ear cups illuminate into a burst of light while a halo of colour chases around in a circle across the fascias. While the lighting isn’t quite as much as the Quantum One’s you must remember that here you have a wireless headset therefore you do not want to sacrifice all of that battery power! Connection The first thing you’ll notice is that sound no longer feels like it’s “inside your head.” Suddenly it seems like the game audio is coming from high-quality loudspeakers—or the virtual game world—all around you. The Quantum 800 features active noise cancellation (ANC), like the Quantum One headset. The difference is that it’s much more useful on the Quantum 800 because of the Bluetooth connectivity; you can connect it to your phone and enjoy ANC when out and about. The ANC button on the headset toggles it on with a long press, and switches between ANC (or non-ANC) listening and a pass-through mode that lets you hear your surroundings clearly with the headset on.
