My dad being a football manager, he would take me as a kid to WH Smiths and try to get me to read Match or Score or something like that, but I always just wanted Agatha Christie books! Alan Carr's Adventures With Agatha Christie - Channel 4 commissions new three-part series from Boom for More 4". I quite like reading memoirs and biographies from comedians and this was bang average, nothing spectacular stood out but it wasn't dreadful either.

In the past, he’d never watch his own appearances – not even one episode of Chatty Man – because he hated his looks. As someone who has family with learning difficulties and disabilities, and who works with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, Alan Carr constantly using people with learning difficulties as the butt of jokes, and using the word r*****ed on several occasions, made me feel a bit sick. As showcased in many of Alan’s stand-up shows, his experience as a gay teenager in the East Midlands is a veritable treasure trove with a rich comedic seam, whether it’s his sexual awakenings, his daily battle with bullies or navigating the highs and lows of Fourth division football.Alanatomy: The Inside Story is Alan's second memoir, and will be published by Penguin in October 2016. I was excited to read this as I really enjoy Alan Carr's comedy, fortunately this book has the same humour you find in his acts. He always thought he was overweight and his teeth were gappy – although he’s astute enough to know they enhance the caricature, the brand, much like Kenneth Williams’s flaring nostrils. Carr himself appears as a sort of ghost of Christmas yet to come, albeit a more cheerful one, dropping in to scenes to narrate for a while, or crack jokes about the star he would become.

With his tongue-in-cheek, end of pier humour that made him famous, Alan describes an ordinary life in bursts of technicolour.

Whilst Alan hasn’t really had any negative press or any scandals, this book does delve into his partner’s alcoholism and about the struggles it had on their relationship. Autobiographies I've read in the past paint an entirely unrealistic picture of a celebrity's struggles to get where they are today. There was the 4am police statement he has no memory of signing outside a McDonald’s in Liverpool after Elliott, his tour manager, had been severely beaten by a gang, leaving him with a shattered leg. Carr will star as himself in the present day, with Oliver Save ( Belfast) taking on the role of a younger Alan.
