Description

Lately I have been in a quest for ultimate sound quality on portability . I bought quite a lot of portable dac/amp solutions , including different usb dongles , bluetooth dongles , smartphones , and a Chord Mojo Dac/Amp ; and still have some of them . I am audiophile or audio enthusiast ; been training in piano and drums when younger ; have quite demanding ears and can't get along happy with my listenings if there's a weak bass rendition or a lean body or a too light timbral representation of instruments . At the rear part, you can find the AUX in/out, USB-in, USB charging port (both USB-C, lovely), and digital input. Low-pass filter duties are carried by two OPA1642 op-amps that are passing the signal to the AM3E amp module. The amplification stage of AM3E is formed by a combination of one JFET OPA8620 op-amp and by an additional OPA926 custom op-amp. It also features both 3.5mm single-ended and 2.5mm balanced outputs, making the Fiio capable of working with some quite esoteric headphones.

You can’t be a music lover, or an All the cables you may need, including short angled cables to strap the XD-05 Plus to your phone, a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, a silicone separator, and rubber feet are all included in the XD-05 Plus. It has vents to cool off, because when you provide almost a watt of power at 32 OHMs, you really need vents and to be careful with your power. It even has a smol OLED Display at the front, along with a full fledged volume wheel. There’s just a bit of channel imbalance at the beginning of the volume wheel.and prog / fusion / metal / jazz mixes , both old style and modern , for bands and non-classical related genres . The THX module as was the case with the M11Pro or even the budget Q3 is an excellent performer with unrestrained dynamic behavior serving its duty silently letting the dac be the first actor than itself. I’ll do two paragraphs in the sound description. The first one will be standard-length, and the next will be shorter, describing the xDuoo XD-05 Plus when it works only as a DAC, enjoy! I decided not to do a separate paragraph for the Amplifier function because it sounds very similar to the XD-05 as a DAC/AMP. Ok. Headphones will give you 70% of the sound signature and quality. The rest is DAC and amp section. I did a review a few months ago and long story short, really liked the device which felt like a swiss army knife, for audio purposes. Here is an excerpt:

The build quality of the XD-05 Plus is insane. This is a really well-thought device, it has ventilation, and if you’re the daring type, you can even open it up and change the OP-AMPs inside to something different. You can literally tune it, you can listen to it however you like, and you can even enjoy it in the basic configuration. If one wants to judge all factors that goes into portability, build and usability , then there are many things that piles in favor of the Fiio device ; There’s a tangible sense of singer and pianist in a simpatico relationship. And if ever there was a recording where the Q5’s all-encompassing need to be fully in control wasn’t an issue, this is it.I have DT 770 as well, the 80 ohm version, not 250 however. They are compared to other headphones very "alive" and dynamic, with bass and treble. You will get good sound with Q5 series on this (if can power them well, i have my doubts for the 250ohm version, but you have other amplifiers which is good). Q5s and Q5s TC are considered very neutral, which with this headphones will be just right in my opinion, with bass, but not overwhelming and treble for good details. If you are looking for the 80ohm version, know that it is still hard to drive out of any phone/tablet and such. You will get sound of it them, but very weak. There are comparisons here between the different ohm versions here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/gui...-dt770-dt990-models-more.513393/#post-6938759 I loved the Bass Boost, it is the perfect feature to have on a DAC/AMP if you want to color your listening experience. Q5s-TC offers a fast and easy-on-ears sound ; that can be appreciated more and more deep with time too , for technicalities and ranges , without major compromises in its signature ; there's no digities when on Usb Dac bit-perfect use ( that I can hear , anywhere) ; and the performance in his most lossless fashion is very interesting to hear . Bluetooth operation doesn't reach the same cohesivity and continuity , and the bass can sound an inch less organic to the rest ; but it is very good nontheles. We didn’t have the chance to get this one for review, but I can give you an excerpt of the previous K5 review, by Lieven:

xDuoo XD-05 Plus + HIFIMAN Deva (250 USD + 300 USD) – With Deva, I always feel that I need more power. XD-05 Plus puts my mind to ease when it comes to powering Deva, as it has more than enough power, authority, and punc, making Deva truly shine their best. The soundstage is natural in size, since Deva had a really extensive stage, and the more intimate presentation of XD-05 Plus narrows that down a bit. Fiio offers a number of amp-section alternatives, so particularly power-hungry headphones can be accommodated - and, says the company, different sonic signatures can be achieved. The FiiO Q3 is the new entry-level DAC/AMP from the brand. Visually it’s a slight evolution from the previous Q1 Mark II, especially compared from the time when the brand moved from the first Q1, to the Mark II. Thankfully, it remains perfectly up-to-date, with its clean unibody shell, and provides THX-AAA + AKM AK4462 performances, through 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.

Fiio The Best DACs 2020: Schiit, AudioQuest, Cambridge Audio, Fiio

I was genuinely surprised that it can properly drive the Quad Era-1 planars even on the 3.5mm SE output at about 70% volume and upwards, now take into consideration that the balanced headphone out offers double the power so I would have an even higher headroom and better driver control. other is for bass boost ; I did not use it very much as for my usage I preferred EQ/HibyMusic MSEB only , anyhow and for the record : the bass boost seems to boost a wide region of bass>sub-bass frq.es ; On the top edge you’ll find a 3.5mm optical/coaxial/analogue input and 3.5mm line out, alongside a switchable gain control and an on/off bass-boost switch.DACs: xDuoo XD-05 Plus, xDuoo Link, FiiO Q5S, iFi Audio iDSD BL, Matrix Audio Element X, KECES S3, Topping DX7 Pro, Topping D50S
