Description

Fast good read, understanding how the child brain develops, my favourite part yet to try is the boat on his belly as we are already learning breathing threw emotional stages. Their premise is that these twelve strategies help “integrate” children’s brains, that is, “coordinate[] and balance[] the separate regions of the brain” so as to optimize mental health. Great for parents and teachers alike to help teach kids they can learn to influence their environment rather than be influenced BY it.

Though Spiegel and Bryson don’t offer much that’s new in the realm of what parents ought to do, “The Whole Brain Child” adds value to the genre in providing the why and organizing the what into an easily understood, memorable, and, yes, at one point even “revolutionary,” how. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. We want to help make the information in this book accessible to as many parents as possible, so we have provided below links to parent discussion guides by chapter as well as links to blog posts (written by Annie McClellan at Tapestry) detailing each of the 12 strategies in the book.I urge all parents who want kind, happy, and emotionally healthy kids to read The Whole-Brain Child. One of the back-of-book blurbs described it as "erudite" and offering a "science focus" which is completely misleading. Kitabın kapağında Bütün Beyinli Çocuk kavramı için devrim yaratan 12 strateji deniyor ancak stratejilerin hiçbiri akılda kalıcı değil.

Siegel) and a parenting expert (Tina Payne Bryson), The Whole-Brain Child explores how a child’s brain functions and matures. Siegel has the unique ability to convey complicated scientific concepts in a concise and comprehensible way that all readers can enjoy. Sometimes children need a little bit of help with their empathy and to recognize others' needs and perspectives. The fifth and sixth chapters, however, throw a little of Susan Stiffelman’s “Parenting Without Power Struggles” into the mix, offering child therapy techniques and explaining why they work through the prism of brain science. Many adoptive and foster parents have found The Whole-Brain Child to be an incredibly helpful and relevant resource as they parent children from hard places. We can shift our attention and energy to other parts of the rim, reminding ourselves that we're more than those particular thoughts or fears we tend to fixate on. Vigorous activity, such as playing "keep it up" with a balloon or trying some yoga poses, releases a lot of tension and stress. I liked this book and appreciated the clear explanations of some brain science concepts (though I don't know whether it is all strictly accurate - for example, I keep hearing that the "left brain, right brain" thing is somewhat of a fiction). Name It to Tame It: corral raging right-brain behaviour through left-brain storytelling, appealing to the left brain's affinity for words and reasoning to calm emotional storms and bodily tension.
