Beaten and faced with the confiscation of her Scissor Blade, Ryūko flees to her old home near the city. As she laments her weakness, Ryūko is dropped down a trapdoor by her homeroom teacher Aikurō Mikisugi, who had followed her against her knowledge. She lands in a large basement atop a massive pile of clothes. The blood from her reopened wound seeps into it and awakens a Kamui—a living sailor uniform—created by her father. The Kamui springs to life and forcefully puts itself on her, craving more of her blood. Ryūko discovers that the uniform possesses immense power, and names it Senketsu. Whilst the plot threads eventually reconcile, I'm not convinced the direction was the right one. All the early momentum of the story stalled and it felt like I was reading something different to the opening chapters (despite actually enjoying what I was reading).

It’s 2019 and manga is where it’s at. While the North American comic book industry continues to disappoint, manga is more popular than ever. After Ryūko expresses her resentment towards Senketsu, Mako confronts her and says that she is no longer being herself. Ryūko responds by saying that she is in fact no longer the same after finding out the truth about her parents and her Life Fiber-infused body. Ryūko is interrupted by Nui Harime and Ragyō Kiryūin, who appear as remote-controlled body doubles composed of Life Fibers. Eldo Yoshimizu’s celebrated Ryuko is joining Titan’s Hard Case Crime line on August 6th, but was originally released in 2011 in Japan. Titan Comics making Ryuko available to manga fans outside of Japan not only makes good business sense, it opens up a whole new market for those clamoring for comics that push artistic barriers like the North American comic industry used to do.
