Selfie screens are par for the course in this entry level class of camera. By default, when you flip the screen up, the camera uses a 3 sec timer before a photoistaken, and a countdown is displayed to prepare you for the decisive moment (this can be switched off). Using the remote control, it is possible to capture selfies while jumping with the Jump Snap function. The smartphone held by the subject detects when they are at the highest position and the camera automatically releases the shutter.

The Panasonic Lumix GX800, or GX850 as it’s known in North America, is an entry-level mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Announced in January 2017, it replaces the GF7 and is aimed at anyone upgrading from a phone or compact camera for better quality, control and flexibility. Like all of Panasonic’s mirrorless cameras to date, it’s based on the Micro Four Thirds system which means it works with any lens designed for that format, including a wealth of options from Panasonic and Olympus. Panasonic typically sells the GX800 / GX850 in a kit with a 12-32mm / 2.7x kit zoom that’s equivalent to 24-64mm in coverage, giving you slightly wider angle capabilities than most kit lenses. I just bought a GX850 and can only shoot video in manual focus because the noise of the autofocus on the other three focus options render the video useless without an external mic. Unless the one I bought has a defect? Only a very rare lens in the whole camera markets has a metal mount. Everything else has plastic mounts! This mode switches the shutter from mechanical to electronic and turns all sound (AF, operation) off while suppressing the emission of the AF assist lamp and flash with just a single setting for special shooting occasions. The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX800 allows you to take panoramic images very easily by 'sweeping' with the camera. The camera does all the processing and stitching. In addition many of the Creative Filter effects can also be applied to panorama shots in the Creative Panorama mode. Panorama The GM easy use features could be mentally brushed aside by more serious users - the GF7/8 and GX850 models leave the toy image intact and continually in the user's face.

The built-in Wi-Fi connectivity lets you remotely control the camera using the Panasonic Image App on a smartphone or tablet, and is available for iOS and Android devices. There are a large number of options and settings that can be accessed and changed, making the app extremely useful, there are also time-lapse options, and you can view and share images, as well as tag photos with GPS information. OlyPent - an intuitive interface has nothing to do with the manual. It's about workflow, how you present the options, etc. Yes, the Panasonic is certainly more intuitive at many things than the Olympus.New features in this model include the addition of a small handgrip on the front of the camera, beauty functions are now available in the Portrait scene mode, the full width of the image sensor is used in the 4K Self Shot mode with a frame rate of 15fps, there are more in-camera beauty functions and airbrush effects, and the new Night Selfie mode captures a more vibrant night scene image. Above: The panorama mode also lets you choose the direction of shooting. Here’s an example with the camera on its side for a taller image. The Panasonic Lumix GX880 has an extensive range of creative Filters, with 22 different options on offer. So overall, although there's very little new on offer, the new Panasonic Lumix GX880 remains an attractively designed, compellingly compact starter camera.

Overall, the GX800 is a great little offering from Panasonic. It comes at the same time as the full specifications for the GH5 have been announced - completely at the other end of the scale in terms of intended consumers, so it’s pleasing to see the company giving attention to a wide spectrum of intended users.

Image quality is very good, but somehow I liked the colors a bit better on the original. Anyway here's a recent example Guess who else had Japanese brands have been manufacturing rangefinders. Both, Canon and Nikon. And the latter, although it failed to win the purists with the Nikon dF, could very well have done this: introducing the Z series as a digital Rangefinder camera, and not as a pseudo-SLR.

Other than a couple of new beauty retouch options, Aesthetic Retouch and Make-up Retouch, which are also now available in the Portrait scene mode, the new Panasonic GX880 offers all of the same core features as its 2-year-old predecessor, the GX800. Yes I am talking about 21mm equivalent. I have the 14mm pancake plus 0.78x wide convertor, which is about 11mm (22mm eq.). I really like the focal length for videoin 16:9. The flash settings on the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX800 are Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Forced Flash On, Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction and Forced Flash Off.
