Description

Deep Space is a special area on the far right side of your Villain's board. This area is specifically used for playing Vehicle cards, as well as certain cards that are able to be played to Deep Space or that can be played on top of Vehicle cards. In 1980, Darth Vader, in his attempt to turn Luke Skywalker, uttered the words that would leave many wishing they could have a taste of the Dark Side. Wondering if they too could become as powerful as Lord Vader himself, if only they had the means…well now they can in Star Wars Villainous: Power of The Dark Side. Currently there are many versions of Villainous available including Disney Villainous along with its multiple expansions and of course, Marvel Villainous. Different incarnations of the game seem to have their own twists and differences which make for a refreshing experience each time you play. The list of additions only continues to grow as Ravensburger is showing no signs of slowing down in adding to this fantastic franchise. Hello There

At the start of your turn, before moving your Villain Mover, you must gain one Ambition token from the general Supply (referred to as The Chamber.)Other new features include the use of credits and ambition as forms of currency. Credits are often used to play cards from a player’s hand whilst ambition allows players to use more powerful abilities in the game. Each turn players will gain 1 ambition token and can earn more through cards in their hand. Some villains will require lots of ambition to reach their objective, so it is a key element of this game. In Villainous, you’ll play as an iconic Star Wars™ Villain. Choose Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, or Moff Gideon. Each Villain has a unique objective and abilities based on their story and abilities. You’ll also meddle with your opponents by playing forcing them to face off against Jedi and heroes like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka Tano. The Villain Movers are beautifully designed, but the flakes embedded within each figure aren’t evenly distributed and can make them look unintentionally damaged. (Image credit: Future)

Classic Star Wars character Boba Fett will be introduced to Star Wars Villainous in the latest expansion for the board game. The dedication to lore is quite good. Each villain has goals that align very well with their motivations and abilities in the established Star Wars canon. The same is true for their allies and the heroes used to ruin their schemes. To that end, the artwork reflects the accuracy of the canon to a very high degree. Each Vehicle card provides a new location for your Sector that your Villain can move to at the beginning of your turn, and will provide you with actions and a special Ability.Choosing villains from the Star Wars universe for this introductory game must have been by no means an easy feat. There are just so many wonderfully evil bad guys to choose from! Thankfully, Ravensburger did a great job with their choices. Announced on May the Fourth – the Star War celebration day – Scum and Villainy is the first upcoming board game expansion for Star Wars Villainous. Featuring iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett, Scum and Villainy will provide players with three new playable characters to control in their playthroughs of Star Wars Villainous. The other two playable characters found in Scum and Villainy besides Boba Fett will be revealed sometime next month. Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. Each villain has a small board called a Sector, which houses their mover and informs their actions during the game. Neat additions for new players are five unique Villain Guides that explain a few key details about each character and five identical Reference Charts that briefly explain what all of the action icons mean and each of the villains’ objectives. It’s worth mentioning that the Activate action is not used by any villain and will presumably come into play via future expansions. Star Wars Villainous is a strategic tabletop game where you take the role of an iconic Star Wars franchise Villain. Your goal is to fulfill the evil scheme your Villain was trying to accomplish in the movie or series they are from - whoever completes this first, wins!

Star Wars Villainous: Scum and Villainy is set to be released by Ravensburger, the studio responsible for publishing the core Star Wars board game, as well as the original Disney Villainous and Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power. Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side was designed by Prospero Hall, the studio behind Disney Villainous, and Michael Mulvihill. The objectives are fun to play and ensures that the new ambition tokens are brought into the game quite frequently. I will say that, during a 4-player game, we ran out of the ambition tokens and had to substitute with credits for a while. As well as the tokens, I have not yet played a game where the vehicles have had a large impact on the game which is a little disappointing. As we near 4 million Villainous games sold worldwide, we are excited to expand the Star Wars Villainous galaxy, with Boba Fett, the most highly requested villain in the galaxy,” said Florian Baldenhofer, international category director at Ravensburger, in a news release. For fans of Villainous that feel as if they've seen everything it's got to offer, Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side should reinvigorate the franchise. Thanks to smart, well-thought out additions that build new spokes on the wheel rather than reinventing it, this is a breath of fresh air that'll make you excited to play again. Taken as a whole, this makes Star Wars Villainous one of the best additions to the franchise in years. For me, it's a stronger entry than Marvel Villainous and builds on the formula in clever ways. Should you buy Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side?Disney Villainous contained six playable characters but Star Wars Villainous follows the Marvel variant’s trend and only includes five: Darth Vader, General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, Kylo Ren and Moff Gideon. It’s a nice selection covering the width and breadth of the Skywalker Saga timeline, whether you’re a fan of the originals, prequels or sequels. The Disney Villainous series began in 2018 with Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It All, featuring Captain Hook, Maleficent, Jafar, and others. The game asks players to take on the role of famous Disney villains, working against each other to become the first to enact their own unique goals and objectives. Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side debuted in 2022, adding famous characters like Darth Vader, as well as vehicles and other mechanics, to the award-winning series known for its meaty, yet welcoming, strategic gameplay. This next product is both an expansion and a stand-alone game, allowing players to experience the core Star Wars Villainous experience for the first time or mix and match characters with the Power of the Dark Side product that came before it. If you enjoy the Star Wars licence there are lots of other games to consider but they’re all very different from Villainous and most are as much, if not more, complicated. Perhaps the most accessible is Star Wars: X-Wing, where you fly ready-painted models of iconic ships in deep space dogfights. It looks great and plays great but be aware that it’s the thin end of a wedge, with eye-popping numbers of additional ships available if you want them. It doesn't change the game per se, but the idea gives you interesting new ways to interact with Villainous as a whole. Gameplay gets a big thumbs up as well, even if it's a lot to take in at first (you'll definitely need to play a throwaway session to get the hang of things). Namely, the addition of vehicles from across the franchise isn't just a glorified ally card; they provide legitimate ways to enhance or hinder gameplay that you'll need to build into your strategy. Unless you want to grind to a halt when someone deploys an X-Wing that reduces the number of cards you can carry, of course.
