It’s time to open up a new conversation about alcohol and its effect on our mental and physical fitness. I was absolutely not sure what to expect of this beer being alcohol free, but bought on recommendation. It was a healthy dose of fortune (and the last flight out of London pre lockdown) that led to us brewing our beers at home in Scotland. Using water directly from the Lammermuir Hills in Scotland and Malted Barley from nearby their brewery in North Berwick, the Days Lager is clean, crisp and sessionable. Lightly malted with well-balanced floral and citrus notes, Days lager is brewed with Hallertau hops and only 73 calories per 330ml of beer.

The bubbles quickly settle, leaving it looking a little timid, with that little head a reminder that there is some life in there. It is light, with good flavour, and none of the unpleasant aftertaste that some low alcohol beers have. These are joined by peppery, earthy, hop aromas backed by a little dried sage and a squeeze of lemon and drop of passionfruit. There is some caramel sweetness to the drink but this is well tempered with bitterness, striking a decent enough balance.

Days Brewing’s ‘double fermentation’ technique does produce the taste of beer but we still get the flavours and aromas of unfermented wort in the drink, though not on the same level as other malty AF beers such as St Peter’s Without. The subject of this review, Days Pale Ale, uses a trio of CTZ, Hallertau Magnum and Herkules hops in it’s production. Excessive boozing causes your body to become dehydrated which results in bloating and dullness of the skin and eyes, among other things. This beer is exceptionally good, the pale ale is as good as an alcoholic version, refreshing and full of flavour.I acknowledge that taste is an individual thing, but this is a long way away from a pale ale flavour. Crisp citrus bitterness when we taste, more grapefruit than orange I'd say, with an earthy background. These are often used in American-style ales, and offer mainly bitter citrus flavours and aromas with a bit of spice. The quality of Days' beers doesn't just speak for itself, they have awards to prove just how good they are.
