Description

While the Prismo does a surprisingly good job of making an espresso-like drink, the thing that I really like about it is the versatility it adds to the Aeropress. The combination of a metal filter, pressure actuated valve, and overall solid design create a lot of possibilities. Here’s what’s most unique about the Fellow Prismo: Insert the provided metal filter into your Prismo. Then, attach your Fellow Prismo to your AeroPress chamber. Specialty Coffee Association. (2021, February 9). 2021 Coffee Design Awards Finalists. Retrieved from https://design.sca.coffee/2021-coffee-design-awards-finalists But it’s also a handy travel accessory (no need to bring paper filters), a great drip-preventer (if you find the inverted method cumbersome), and a way to slightly but noticeably increase the body of standard AeroPress brews. Two budget espresso alternatives

The shot is strong, flavorful, and close to a standard espresso shot when done right. If you make a mistake, it’s still decent, but the difference is noticeable. I can get crema sometimes, but only if I do everything just right. Please use caution when pressing down. Thin glassware may break if too much pressure is applied. When in doubt, use a ceramic or metal cup. Fellow Prismo for AeroPress Features It will grind more efficiently at espresso fineness (like the Prismo needs) and will give you better brews with all other methods, too. There’s no adjustment Stir the coffee for 20-30 seconds. More stirring increases extraction and makes a stronger, more syrupy body.

There will also be some variations in how fine the mesh is. Smaller holes will naturally do a better job of filtering the brew. I’ve yet to find a better approach, but I will add just a few notes and caveats to supplement theirs.

Before pressing your brew, the valve is in the closed position, which stops the flow of your brew into your cup. It’s like the previous secret methods, but it has a strange twist. We won’t be tamping the coffee grounds and placing a paper filter on top. So, now that I have my new Prismo attached and some fresh coffee beans ground down to a very fine grind (number 1-2 on the OXO burr grinder are the best settings I’ve found so far), I’m ready to brew espresso style coffee. Personally, I favor clarity (so that means paper filtration), but if you like something else, then by all means go ahead. In terms of maintenance, there is nothing to do beyond keeping things clean. Consider washing the whole system with warm soapy water weekly, paying particular attention to cleaning the one-way valve. I never had any issues with the valve clogging, but I could see this happening if you ignored it for months.

Using Prismo with Filtered Recipes

For starters, what’s a micron, you ask? A micron, also known as a micrometer, is a unit of length that is one thousandth of a millimetre. Pay attention to your amount of water! Going over 50 grams by even just a few extra grams can throw off the shot. The third and final method will be the method that you’ll have the most success with. It’s the difference between mediocre and jaw-dropping!
