I’ll admit it: I didn’t want to be a fan of Skims. I’m not anti-Kardashian, but I was hoping to give top-billing to a lesser-known independent brand, and while I’m sure such a label exists, it’s easy to see why curve model Olivia Campbell listed Skims in her top three.

All seamless underwear is meant to be no-show, but not all no-show underwear [is] seamless,” says Caldwell. Some no-show underwear, for instance, have seams at the hip or top to ensure a tight fit, while others may have seams underneath despite a smooth, lineless look on the outside. “True seamless underwear has no seams whatsoever,” Caldwell explains, who adds that they are made from “one piece of material with no cuts or seams.” Seamless underwear is available in various cuts, ranging from thongs to bikinis to briefs. Each style provides a different amount of coverage and feels different on your body, so think about how much skin you want to show and how supportive you want your underwear to be when considering the cut of your seamless underwear. If you know your size but you're unsure of what styles will suit, there are a few basic rules to arm yourself with. Triangle and non-wired styles are easier for A-C cups as they usually don't provide a huge amount of support. Padded styles will give a fuller shape, while unlined bras create a more natural-looking silhouette. Finally, there's a big difference between balconette and high-apex cups, so pay attention to your breast shape and zoom in on product detailing for a good indication of whether something will suit.

A VPL is an unfortunate faux pas, but its something that happens to literally everyone unless you invest in the best seamless underwear. Tamara Conlin, vice president of Product Operations & Strategy at Parade, offers some guidance if you're in the market for this aforementioned pal. "True seamless underwear has an edgeless design—no lines under clothes, even leggings," she says. "When shopping for seamless underwear, it's best to look out for these second-skin materials and fabrics, and to find a pair that shows no lines at all." In my 10-plus (I'm not going to give away my age here) years of working in fashion journalism, I don’t recall ever being so consumed by a product I’ve researched. I’m not alone; of all the experts I’ve interviewed for InStyle and elsewhere, no subset of people have given such thorough insights and compelling arguments as the lingerie specialists, curve models, and body diversity advocates you’ll meet below. It seems if you’re into lingerie, you’re really into it.

Historically, seamless underwear hasn’t been very sexy, yet Kim has — of course — made it so. Forget everything you thought you knew about flesh-colored seamless pants. Skims has the best selection in terms of fabrication, cut, and color, and there’s a whole range of matching bras. They don’t dig in (as shapewear often does), and they’re comfortable enough to wear all day. “For me, underwear can be my loungewear. It has to feel good,” says Saucye West, a plus-size model and self-proclaimed “fat activist” — clearly, Kim follows the same mantra.

Skims makes some of the best shapewear on the market, and that includes the brand’s mid-rise seamless brief. The underwear is designed to be basically invisible under your clothes, while supporting, shaping, and lifting at the same time. That being said, different materials may cater to different needs. If your priority is product lifespan, a modal may just be your best option. Mostly nylon and all-nylon options tend to be less expensive since nylon is one of the most cost-effective fabrics. Though both are plant-based textiles, cotton and modal have some distinct differences to understand. Modal is a knit-like fabric that’s often used for luxury goods. It’s stretchy, soft, breathable, water-absorbent, durable, and resistant to wrinkles. While cotton is soft, it offers less stretch, breathability, water-absorbency, and wrinkle resistance.

When you find the perfect pair of seamless underwear, it’s like finding a new and true friend. It allows you to feel comfortable and confident in the way you look and move, and you can trust that when it makes a promise (e.g., to keep you line-free in every outfit), it’ll pull through every time.
